Another change to Bafana Bafana Cosafa Cup squad

Gordon Igesund has had to make yet another change to his Bafana Bafana squad for the 2013 Cosafa Cup.

According to Safa, "Igesund is hopeful that the latest change in the Bafana Bafana squad travelling to the Cosafa Cup tournament in Zambia will be the last" – and it is fairly certain the fans are hoping the same thing.

Igesund has already made two sets of changes to his original squad, after players were withdrawn from consideration by their clubs.

The latest casualty is Platinum Stars’ Vuyo Mere, who according to Safa was included in the squad “before the issue had been finalised with his club”.

“His name was included during the initial stages of the discussions with Platinum Stars. But seeing that the club had already given Bafana Bafana four players it was felt the player should not be part of the travelling party so as not cripple their [Platinum Stars’] preparations,” a statement from Safa says.

“Safa regrets the inconvenience caused to the club and the player.”

Igesund has called up Gladwin Shitolo of Jomo Cosmos in Mere’s place.

The squad will assemble on Wednesday, July 10.

However, defender Bevan Fransman will not be available for the first match on Saturday, June 13 because of club commitments.

Fransman is expected to line up for SuperSport United against English Premier League side Manchester City in a pre-season clash at Loftus Stadium on Sunday, July 14. He will fly out to Zambia the next day.

Final squad

Goalkeepers: Wayne Sandilands (Mamelodi Sundowns), Siyabonga Mpontshane (Platinum Stars)

Defenders: Sibusiso Khumalo, Bevan Fransman (SuperSport United), Buhle Mkhwanazi (University of Pretoria), Thulani Hlatshwayo (Ajax Cape Town), Lehlohonolo Nonyane (Jomo Cosmos), Gladwin Shitolo (Jomo Cosmos), Tshepo Gumede (Platinum Stars)

Midfielders: Sibusiso Msomi (Platinum Stars), Lerato Chabangu (Moroka Swallows), Jabulani Shongwe, Hlompho Kekana (both Mamelodi Sundowns), Ruzaigh Gamildien (Bloemfontein Celtic), Lebogang Manyana (Ajax Cape Town), Mzikayise Mashaba (Bidvest Wits), Mandla Masango (Kaizer Chiefs)

Forwards: Edward Manqele (Mamelodi Sundowns), Katlego Mashego (Moroka Swallows), Thabani Mthembu (Platinum Stars)

Why PSL is ranked no. 67 in the
world and 9 in africa......
1. lower attendances in stadiums
where you only see a sell out in
soweto derby and in a final which
involves a soweto club...
2. orlando pirates & kaizer chiefs
baised- black label only involves
these teams.
3. super cup non existance- all
footballing countries have this
competition whch sees league
champs and national cup winners
lock horns 4 early season
4. For two straight
team has managed to score at
least 50 league goals
5. in the last 2 years psl clubs have
failed to sell a player to a major
league in europe...
6. anti youth- no team has ever
fielded a player u/17 for @least 5
7. no psl club has won champions
league nor caf cup in the last 10
i call these 7th heaventh to way psl
is boring........

What's wrong Mara with this Gordon character yeh...?

2 players from Jomo Cosmos...? a team that hardly challenged in the NFD.... what about the top players from the teams that dominated the NFD...? Surely they were better than the Cosmos players......!?!

What the use of this tournament anyway? It's not helping. The coach gets nowhere close to the team he's gonna use for the WC qualifiers. U can't even talk about the future bcos the players he really wanted he can't get, it's out of FIFA date

Chiefs hooligans must swallow their pride and accept that only Jomo Cosmos players will bring success to the country. 8 Jomo Comos superstars did it in 1996 WHILE Chiefs donkeys are embarassing the country with their superb and world class own goals and timewasting shenanigans. GI MUST GO BACK TO JOMO COSMOS IF HE WANT TO WIN CONTINETAL CUPS. Pirates won their star because they had 5 Jomo Cosmos` well oiled players. Chiefs won their Mandela Cup because they had Arthur ZWANE.

Spot on my brada, whats the use of taking failures like Katlego Mashego and Mandla Masango to this tournament, Gordin doesnt care about the youth coz if he did, he wouldve noticed that theres a player called Moloi who plays for Supersport United, he played in all there league games in the 2nd round and he is only 19!
