Omeruo wants to fight for Chelsea place

Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo has opted to forgo surgery to take part in Chelsea's pre-season

Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo has opted to forgo surgery on his dislocated shoulder in order to take part in English Premier League side Chelsea's pre-season and try to win a place in the squad.

The defender hurt his shoulder early in Nigeria's 0-3 Confederations Cup group stage defeat to Spain and was taken off for an immediate X-ray.

"I had the option of surgery, which would keep me out for three months, or just rest it," Omeruo told KickOffNigeria.com. "I decided I would rest it.

"I want to be part of the pre-season with Chelsea, and I hope that I can do well enough to stay there and not go out on loan again."

Jose Mourinho has returned for his second spell as Chelsea manager, and Omeruo hopes to make it hard for the former Real Madrid boss.

"I'm sure he will be looking at all his options now, and if I work hard enough, I can make it hard for him," he told KickOffNigeria.com.

Good stamina & aggression, but poor judgement on area balls & poor positioning. Work on those 2 and u can be a better defender.

@Kenneth Omeruo ....
Thank God, your injury was not as serious as I feared!!!
Keep it up bro and remain focused!!!
The sky is already within your reach.....however, donot pressurize urself or try to impress the Chelsea coaching crew. Play your normal game and keep learning from the experienced team mates both at clublevel as well as in the national team. Listen to every instructions and continue to see yourself as an everyday learner.
Remain humble as always and try to avoid any possible bad influence.
Mikel and Victor moses will always be there for you as well as other senior positive minded player(s), so always feel at home.
God bless you and all players as well as coaching crew that have starred positively for the SE!!!

@naijabreed, What do you mean by poor judgement ? It was a timely challenge against Fabregas that resulted in that shoulder injury. The guy is the best center-back in Nigeria at the moment , reminds me of Taribo West. No-nonsense defender. Keeping Drogba,Cavani,Suarez e.t.c calm is a difficult task.

Omeruo is d best defender we av presently buh he cannot be compare 2 d JT, vidic, & Chiellini's of dis world, buh dere is room 4 improvement since age is on his side.

@naijabreed, Efe is responsible for the goal against Tahiti and Enyeama miscalculated as well. Which goal against Ivory Coast ? The free-kick which Drogba sent in ? Efe is not a solid right-back, he's rather being responsible for most goals Nigeria have conceded right from the Afcon. Our opponents always utilize his wing. And to be fair , Omeruo was subtituted after the Spanish first goal, apperently the scoreline would have been different if he finished the game. Compare his age and what he does to other defenders we 've paraded over the years, then you 'll see the difference. John Terry only looks good when Chelsea park-ship-and-defend.

Most people who are posting their comments here seems to be jerous with this young boy,i hope to see himj one day playing and make judgement for him but he is a good defender if he was able to hold didier in afcon cup,the first choise centre back in nigeria as you know nigeria is our brazil here in africa hard to be in first 11 but him he have been picked so for me i think this guy can turn to be a good centre back for it start like this and then at last he come up as one.

Another legend in the making. Egwueke, with 90 minutes of action in some tough grade A matches, is another super star in the making. Judging by what I saw in the match against Spain, he is not far from stardom. He simply needs more confidence. I didn't believe in him earlier. But, I am now a convert of his kind of football.

NFF chairman statement that he will now dictate for Keshi on selections of players is a thing of concern, I listened to his interview conducted by Collins Udoh in Brazil, he openly said that from now on him and other 165 million Nigerians will be selecting players for the coach, my question is does it happen in other countries or onlyin my dear country Nigeria, why is it that people like NFF president can't give Kheshi 4 years to see the good work that he is doing, I agree with people who said that we have a lot of players playing all over the world, this bunch of players everyone is talking about are highly talented but nothing to show for it in the national team, if NFF chairman and the rest of 165 million Nigerians select players for Keshi who will do the final selection? the way things stand now if care is not taken all the good job the coach is doing in SE will be disorganize by people who want build a house with out foundation, Brazil, Italy, Germany are super powers in football because they have patience to build, give Kheshi time to mold this youthful talented SE that he is molding and see what SE will be in one year time, God bless all.

@ogbonna, since the coach don't want to do the right thing by inviting players that merits invitations rather than trying to sell his wares why wouldn't the nff interfere? For christ sake this country is blessed with so much young talents both home and abroad but keshi have been ignorant to acknowledge that and keep his selfish ways aside. No coach in the world goes to a tournament without his best legs. What on earth are the likes of Gambo, babatunde, egwuekwe, mba etc doing in the national team when we have players who did incredibly well in europe both tested and untested. What is delaying the invitation of imoh ezekiel and hope akpan? Why is yobo droped from the team? Coming to the under 20 how is keshi monitoring them inorder to scout some good ones there such as ajagun and olaitan? In the this current team we still don't have a good attacking midfielder when we have haruna lukman who did very well in dynamo kiev this season? Even bringing his combo with ideye to the national team is an opportunity keshi has to explore because in dynamo kiev haruna plays behind ideye. Keshi is a good coach no doubt about it but have to do the right thing by telling himself the gospel truth.
