Nigeria get Onazi deadline

Nigeria get Ogenyi Onazi deadline for Confederations Cup

Posted: 16 June 2013 Time: 07:15 pm

Fifa have given Nigeria until 4pm on Sunday to decide whether or not to replace injured midfielder Ogenyi Onazi in their Confederations Cup squad.

The Lazio midfielder picked up a knee injury when the Super Eagles played Namibia on Wednesday in Windhoek, and flew back to Nigeria on Saturday.

The initial prognosis was that he could be out for about two weeks, but the player told team officials that he could make the tournament and has been given the benefit of the doubt.

Stephen Keshi has not named a replacement for Onazi, but Nigeria have been told by organisers that they have until 24 hours before kick-off of their opening game to name a replacement.

Keshi and his staff are expected to meet after lunch on Sunday to take a decision.

Abeg they should please replace Onazi. I would like him in the team but it is not worth risking the young mans career. Let him rest and heal properly so he can return for our final game against Malawi. Knee injuries can be very serious. Look at how a knee injury has sidelined Joel Obi. The great Ronaldo also had a lot of knee injuries in his career.

Wow! sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Replace the dude with some other player. Give Onazi time to rest for your WC qualifier.

Keshi please for the sake of this blokes career dont risk including him in the team even if he insists. There are many good midfielders that can come in his place like nosa igiebor, haruna lukman who had a good season,.

ONAZI has been injured since Wednesday, and Coach Keshi can't even place a call to a decent player to replace him. Now we will be the only team that has 22 players In the championship. That shows the kind of slow thinking people who lead our football.

All they know how to do is to tell the players go in there and fight. Fight very hard. Na wrestling? Smh,I tire for these people. No planning, everything jaga jaga. Slyman.

It is significantly important to rest the kid. He is one of the teams important player. Why can't Keshi call up this kid from Las Palmas? Macaulay Chrisantus. He is a natural goal scorer who can become another great player for Nigeria.

replace Onazi with Joel Obi, Lukman haruna or even Obiora Nwankwo and move forward. you don't even need this number of Midfielders by the way. there are Ogude and Ogu already on ground. Move on, let the guy recover for Malawi match.

The last time Keshi called a player after chosen his actual players, he got a shocker of his life. The issue of Danny Shitu may still be fresh on his mind. Keshi does not mind entering this tournament with only 11 players, his ego will make up the rest number for the team.

Onazi went back to Nigeria for spiritual healing from our daddy senior prophet T. B Joshua whom our LORD JESUS CHRIST has given power of healing, I saw him in SCOAN on Sunday when the wise men were praying for him and I believe he is now fine and ready to play, and shall fly to Brazil any moment from now to join his team mates, some trust in their chariots but we the children of most high trust in Jesus Christ who have power to do all things.

Confed Cup: Onazi returns for Uruguay

The Nigeria Football Federation has said that Ogenyi Onazi will be back in Brazil in time for the Matchday Two game against South American Champions, Uruguay on Thursday.
Futaa.com had exclusively reported that the NFF had refused to name another player to replace the Lazio midfielder, despite instructions from FIFA to do so before the game against Tahiti.

Expected
Onazi, who was named in the list of players for the tournament picked up an injury during the World Cup qualifying game against Namibia, and was told he will not be ready to play for another two weeks.
But the player is said to have returned to Nigeria for treatment, and now, the NFF have said another player was not named before the FIFA deadline, because Onazi is expected back before the Uruguay game.

We should stop complain of Keshi he know what is doing. Same happened to Italian national team and coach waited till the last day to see if Barzargi and El sharaway are fit but it was only Barzargi was later confirmed fit before their first match and the two players still remain with the team like Onazi.
