Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the release of Tafadzwa Rusike after deciding against taking up the option of a further year on his contract.
Rusike is now linked with a possible move to Belgian Pro League club Oud-Heverlee Leuven, who already have another Zimbabwean in Ovidy Karuru in their books.
Ajax CEO George Comitis confirms the departure of the stocky midfielder, who is currently in camp with the Zimbabwe senior national team ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Egypt and Guinea.
“He is now free because we didn’t renew his contract. We decided against taking up the option on his contract in May and he is now free to move on to the team of his choice,” says Comitis.
The 24-year-old has been with the Urban Warriors for the past three years after joining at the same time with his homeboy Khama Billiat.
Rusike joins veteran Dutch goalkeeper Sander Westerveld and Brazilian teenager Wanderson Costa Viana in the list of those that the club has released.
