Chippa salvage a draw

Posted: 11 May 2013 Time: 17:19

Chippa United scored at the death to earn a vital draw against University of Pretoria on Saturday.

The Cape side were on top during the opening stages, but lacked penetration up front, struggling to create chances.

The first time Tuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi was called into action was on 20 minutes, when he made a comfortable save after Asavela Mbekile headed straight at him.

However, five minutes later Arubi had a lot more work to do as he dived across to his left to tip Andile Mbenyane’s free-kick over the bar.

The Chilli Boys were to draw first blood, when James Okwuosa headed home from a cross by Tshepo Tomanyane.

It took however just six second half minutes for the visiting side to get back in to the game, when substitute Thabo Mosadi took advantage of Issa Sarr’s indecisive defending, doing well to sprint in on goal and beat Tashrique Goldman.

The intensity of the game stepped up and there were chances at both ends as Chippa went close through Msekile Mvalo, while David Radebe was just wide with a 20-yard effort.

Mbenyane then had a close range shot pushed over goal by Arubi.

Tuks went ahead on 65 minutes when Radebe’s chip located Mosadi, who looped a header over Goldman and into goal.

The Chilli Boys struggled to create chances after that, having to wait until the 82nd minute, when Stanton Lewis sent an effort into the side-netting.

Defeat looked the likely outcome for the Cape side, but they kept on fighting and were rewarded when Mkhanyiseli Siwahla scored with a fantastic dipping volley from 25 yards out.

The Chilli Boys are now second from bottom, two points above Black Leopards, who have a game in hand.
