Downs beat Leopards in 7-goal thriller

Match report: Black Leopards lose to Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 7 May 2013 Time: 9:29 pm

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Black Leopards 5-2 in an action-packed match on Tuesday night.

Teko Modise, Elias Pelembe and Hlompho Kekana made it 3-0 to Downs inside half an hour, before Mongezi got one back for the hosts.

Nyasha Mushekwi added a fourth for Sundowns, before Tiyani Mabunda gave Leopards hope with a second, but Pelembe put the final nail in the coffin.

The visitors stunned the home fans when they took an early lead trough Modise. Sundowns’ captain connected well with Pelembe’s marvellous pass and chipped the ball over Postnett Omony.

Pelembe was then on the receiving end of a brilliant through-ball from Kekana and, finding himself with acres of space, slotted home to score his first goal of the season.

Sundowns made it 3-0 in the 28th minute when Kekana unleashed a rocket of a shot from a free-kick that ripped the back of the net as Leopards conceded their 54th goal of the season.

Leopards went some way towards avoiding an embarrassment when they grabbed their opening goal 10 minutes after Sundowns had scored their third. Their captain Bobe was unnoticed at the back post and headed home Raymond Monama’s cross.

But Mushekwi compounded Leopards’ misery as he was on hand to poke home after a blunder from Omony.

Lidoda Duvha capitalised on Sundowns taking their foot off the peddle when Mabunda unleashed a shot from range that sailed into the back of the net in the 65th minute.

But Sundowns were not done scoring. Pelembe showed his skill when he dribbled past three Leopards defenders on the left side and then scored his second of the season from close range to make it 5-2.

Bad luck hit hard at Black Leopards, their Team Bus broke down at Natorp street earlier during the day, they had no choice but to use a mercedez sprinter, now they are being thrashed by Downs, lets hope they will regroup in the NFD and come back a better team

I've said time and again that Leopards' defence is weak, even Pirates will score atleast 3 goals when they face them, pity for Downs is that after every big win the next game or two they lose or draw, this is a fact

they won 24-0 but didn't win the Nedbank, won 4-1 didn't win trophy and started the season beating Chippa 1-0,then Chiefs beat them 2-1 (own goal by Khune) won 3-0 to Mar U the next game Pitso called his players 'one game wonders' after losing then beat Ajax 3-1 and drew their next game

I hope their next match this dont happen, seriously want Downs in Top8,im itching to avenge that 4-1,anyway congrats Masandawana its been long

Congrats to Sundowns for the three points, but they shouldn't read too much into this. Leopards in their previous two games before this lost 4-0 and 3-1 to Amazulu and Tuks respectively.
