SuperSport crash out against ENPPI

SuperSport United have crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-1 defeat to ENPPI of Egypt at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

United came into the game beaming with confidence after the goalless draw in the first leg in north Africa, but the visitors were a different proposition this time around, led by their marauding Ivorian striker Vincent de Fonye, who scored the brace.

However, it was Matsatsantsa who raced out of the blocks and they drew first blood through George Maluleka’s screamer on 10 minutes.

But rather than push on, United sat back on the lead and they paid the price on 37 minutes when De Fonye capitialised on a poor clearance from makeshift centre-back Edwin Gyimah to fire home from close range.

Three minutes later and the tie was turned on its head as the Ivorian netted his second – the home defence again backing off to allow him a composed, curling finish into the corner.

SuperSport came racing out of the blocks after the break, but the tie was effectively killed off when Omraw Ahmed buried a cut-back on 54 minutes.

Gavin Hunt went on all-out attack and brought on Kermit Erusmus and Thabiso Nkoana for Sameegh Doutie and George Maluleka, but they failed to have the desired impact as SuperSport continued their poor run in this competition and crashed out.

SuperSport XI: Williams, Nkausu, Kekana, Gyimah, Hlela, Mdluli, Maluleka, Doutie, Cale, Nyondo, Zuma

Bench: Fernandez, Meyiwa, Erasmus, Nkoana, Hartog, Nxumalo, Moloi
