Roger Palmgren was named as coach of Namibia on Thursday, just over a month before they play two World Cup qualifiers against Malawi and African champions Nigeria, a Namibia Football Association statement said.
The 50-year-old Swede was coach of Sierra Leone when they competed at the 1996 African Nations Cup finals in 1996 and was later also in charge of Rwanda.
His last job was with PSL club AmaZulu, who fired him late last year.
Palmgren replaces Bernard Kaanjuka, who resigned after Namibia were beaten at home by Malawi in their last World Cup qualifier in March. They have three points from three games in Group F, two behind joint leaders Nigeria and Malawi.
