Ajax Cape Town beat Kaizer Chiefs in League match

Posted: 1 May 2013 Time: 18:59

A brace from Lebogang Manyama and a goal from Mabhuti Khenyeza handed Kaizer Chiefs their second Premiership loss of the season on Wednesday as the Urban Warriors ran out 3-1 winners at a packed Cape Town Stadium.

Ajax, while not in the game in the opening half hour had the first shot on goal via Khama Billiat in the second minute, but Itumeleng Khune made a fine save to turn his 22-yard effort over the crossbar.

After that, however, it was all Chiefs and they should really have taken the lead in the 22nd minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala worked his way into the box and towards the left by-line before cutting the ball back for an unmarked George Lebese. The Chiefs man, though, squandered the chance as he fluffed his shot wide from a couple yards out.

Chiefs were stunned in the 35th minute as a long ball caught them unaware as Billiat latched onto the ball and then played a well-timed pass to Manyama who showed real class to chip a charging Khune, 1-0.

Chiefs went into the break trailing despite controlling the majority of the match.

The second 45 saw the Amakhosi with the lion’s share of possession, but they struggled to break down the Ajax defence in open play.

It took a well-worked set piece to see Chiefs draw level in the 78th minute when Tefu Mashamaite met a Siphiwe Tshabalala corner with a deadly header, 1-1.

Chiefs pressed for the winner, thereafter, but their joy was short lived as Manyama restored the home side’s lead three minutes from time.

The Ajax attacker grabbed his second goal of the game after heading home a right wing cross from six-yards out, 2-1.

Mabhuti Khenyeza added the icing on the cake and confirmed the result as he beat Khune in a one-on-one situation in the 92nd minute to make the score 3-1.

Aint that a bitch!. It doesn't matter ,we are still winning this league whether u like it or not. Yerrrrrr,we got ###### tonight. What the #### was baxter thinking playing george lebese who blessed us wit another horrible performance. It would have been better if nkosi started in his place. And why did baxter bench nkosi anyway? Why bench that poor kid after he blessed us wit awesome performances 4 games in a row?? He earned the right to play and continue his momentum.
