Bloemfontein Celtic are back to winning ways at Free State Stadium after beating Golden Arrows 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Three points is all that separated the two teams coming into the fixture and Celtic knew they had to re-establish their dominance at home, following two successive games without a win.
There were concerns about the state of the patchy field and it undoubtedly had an effect on the tempo of the game as the opening 20 minutes saw little action and many misplaced passes.
30 minutes in the hosts threatened when Ruzaigh Gamildien filtered his corner kick into the box, forcing Nkosingiphile Gumede to rush off his line and make the save.
It was all Celtic in the closing stages of the first half and they saw the perfect opportunity go begging when Rodrick Mutuma failed to connect with a great cross by Limbikani Mzava, sending his effort wide with just the keeper to beat.
Just minutes later Celtic were once again denied a goal when Gumede got in the way of Joel Mogorosi’s strike from the edge of the area.
Arrows came out for the second half energised, with Bongi Ntuli forcing Patrick Tignyemb into a save early on.
In the 62nd minute Clinton Larsen brought on Lennox Bacela, to add a much-needed clinical finishing touch, and he laid on a great pass for Mogorosi, who burst into the box and struck the ball over the onrushing keeper to rattle the back of the net.
There was limited goalmouth action for the remainder of the match and Celtic managed to secure the 1-0 win, keeping their undefeated record against Arrows intact.
