Everton's Ross Barkley eligible for Nigeria

Posted: 18 April 2013 Time: 16:23

Midfielder Ross Barkley has emerged as another fine prospect from the Everton conveyor belt.

It turns out the youngster, who has represented England at Under-16, -17, -19 and -21 levels, is eligible for Nigeria.

Barkley himself revealed this in a ‘Player Focus’ interview with Everton's official website, saying he was eligible for Nigeria, in addition to England. understands that Barkley's eligibility comes through his father, Peter Effanga.

Effanga lives in Liverpool where he works at the Getrag Ford Transmission plant.

But a strained relationship with his father meant the youngster took his mother's surname of Barkley.

Despite admitting his eligibility for Nigeria, understands that Barkley, who has never been to Nigeria, is fully focused on representing England at full international level.

Abeg, get this boy Naija passport asap, lol. This is the type of characters we need. Like I said earlier, Nigeria has abundant talents scattered across the globe. People should be scrambling to play for their countries not the other way round. I will gladly like to see this boy in Green-white-green colors, looks like a patriot.

Instead of NFF to pursue a black goat at day light before it is night, it seems here they are interested is pursuing a black goat at night. NFF go and get Sidney Sam and Imoh Ezekiel first and get things settle with Victor Anichebe before chasing someone who doesn't even play regular in his club. You have Anichebe who plays in the same club week in week out, has shown his loyalty to 9ja.

Very soon dem go tell us say Wayne Rooney grandpa na Naija. Lol

Well this boy has indicated he is eligible for Eagles but e be like say na Oyinbo e be. Lets focus on players who start games on a regular basis for their clubs, unless they seat on the bench of Real Madrid, Barcelona, ACMilan or Juventus. We need Anichebe, Ezekiel, Sidney Sam, Tiago Ilori, Joel Obi and Balogun in our team now. Ross Barkley can wait till he becomes a regular. Since he is not interested, we should not bother with him. There is no need chasing every player. Slyman

@telltheem, You say NFF dey pursue black goat for night ?? Lol. May be NFF are nocturnal beings , lol. Agreed about Anichebe's loyalty and he is a true gentleman to be honest.

its been long this guy has said he is of a nigerian parentage. That was way back then when he broke into Everton 1st team. These NFF dudes are just in stone age if i may say. For me this guy aint ready to wear the green and white so lets not waste our energy. There are lots and lots of others that have declared their readiness to wear the green and white. We should be going for those ones.

NFF don't waste your time trying to convince this guy to play for nigeria because England will never let him slip off their fingers the way moses did. Keshi and NFF should instead try and talk things over with anichebe and also extend and invitation to imoh ezekiel and michael olaitan who will be joining greek giants olympiacos by june. As for barkley and ilori I don't see them playing for naija. Ross barkley is a good prospect and the English FA will never ever loss him.

Ross Barkley??? You got to be kidding me...Common this guy is a complete midfield all rounder. If you want to understand his style, picture steve gerrald of Liverpool FC. Wow he would be a wonderful addition if he would agree. No harm in trying Oya, Keshi over to you..He is just 20yrs old. It took Ivory Coast 3yrs to convince Salomon Kalou to play for them and @ the end, they good their man. Ross Barkley is a very fine and disciplined player. If pride will let us do the right thing, Its about time Keshi makes a very important trip to Europe to talk to our foreign born players. Thier numbers keep increasing by the day...KAI, NAIJA BOYS DEY DO BAD THING ABROAD OH...Just dey pump these white girls without a more serious note, Its about time we started utilizing our "children" overseas. So that dey will know their roots and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria's development.
The list:
Tom taiwo
Tiago Ilori
Jordan Ibe
Jordan Obita
Chuba Akpom
Sidney Sam
Reece Wabara
Chuks Aneke
Chinedu Ede
Ross Barkley
Leon Aderemi Balogun
Funso Ojo
Nathan Delfouneso

How can I apply to work in NFF peeps! Seriously!!

Why is this a news? It is clear were his heart lies, is with England. He once showed interest in Nigeria during the time Anichebe went to Olympics. Now can fat frog "KESHI" get his act together by inviting players that are good enough for SEs to cap them and make them part of the team development. Time wasting by KESHI, not NFF in this matter, should be addressed ASAP.

Keshi should forget this over aged home base players because most of them will not last only the likes of oboabona, gabriel reuben for have signed for kilmanock Ín the SPL and solomon kwambe are the only few that deserve a place in the new team. Sunday mba was just a lucky player during Afcon and I don't see him doing too well in europe because he is old already. Keshi should give more foreign based players d opportunities he have given the home bases players. Haruna lukman is doing very well in his club(dynamo kiev) and even a blind man knows he is the best attacking midfielder we have currently, daniel adejo is rated as the best right back in the italian seria B, imoh ezekiel is the highest scoring nigerian striker in europe this season and have been linked with a host of clubs such as olympic marseille, lille and westbrom, hope akpan to me is the natural understudy of mikel obi of which he is even more faster than mikel (he is the new yaya toure), michael Ólaitan (attackiÑg midfielder)is rated as one of the best rising stars in the greek league where he plies his trade with veria and will be joining olympiacos by june. The above mentioned players really deserve a look in of which I bet that almost all of them will do well in the new eagles. Victor anichebe should be recalled and nff should fast track the eligibility of sidney sam to play for us. Naija is blessed with youngstars all over europe just that keshi is biased and corrupt. He's using the afcon title he won to hold to us to ransome buh God go open em yash one day

@ Charlesbrown true talk. I thot I was the only thinking he used wining the AFCON to hold us for ransome!!! I used to think players are selected based purely on current form not until Keshi's list of 30 players came out.

@Charlesbrown and denonso, nice comments. We have to b realistic, no need salivating over a player whose heart is clearly with England.

@Charlesbrown and denonso, you guys are fools. Why so much bad feelings about Keshi achievement? You are all kill joy, badbelle. Was these players not around during the previous coaches tenure, why didnt they use them to make thier achievement ? why didnt they call them up!!.I hate evil men, ungrateful evil men like you .We did not win any thing for the past 19 yrs and a gentle man from somewhere shows us true patroitism and came and use what we have to achieve our greatest in win Africa so far and you idiots are here critizing him and his approach.Keshi can call who ever he wants that will interprete his strategy, all we want is qualification to the world cup, good showing at the confiderations cup and another win of Afcon!.Finally i will like to advise him to look in the way of Anichebe, Omo Ezekiel and Sidney sam to boost our team.Keshi is the best for us at the moment and nobody should take the Glory of his Afcon winning away from him.If he like let him use it as a bargaining chip, he deserve it.If you dont like his achievement or you are jealious , you may kindly hong the transformer!!!

The last sentence shows the guy ain't playing for naija. Even if he guy does not make it with England this guy would rather do without international football then play for Naija. KON should be reporting better news on bringing the attention of the NFF to speed up the switch of Sidney, and more positive prospects than this guy.

@Good luck Jonathan, you listed 14 players and i don't know why u are clamouring for them. If some of our homebase players left the shores of Africa and sign for the some of the clubs these guys u listed play for, they would never be invited to play for Nigeria.

These guys you listed, please check their stats. game played etc. inviting some of these guy would be an insult to our homebase players.

A player should never be begged to represent his fatherland otherwise you get the same result as Kevin prince Boeteng of Ghana.
