Maritzburg United held on for a valuable 1-1 away draw against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
Celtic started the more positive of the two sides and had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 20th minute, when Letladi Madubanya played the ball across the face of goal, but somehow Maritzburg cleared their lines without Tladi Majake or Rodrick Mutuma being able to stab the ball home.
Delron Buckley created the first chance for Maritzburg in the 37th minute, controlling with his chest before hitting a stinging strike towards goal, but Patrick Tignyemb was up to the task, and tipped the ball over crossbar.
United then opened the scoring completely against the run of play, when Tignyemb was unable to overpower Cuthbert Malajila in the air and the ball fell to Byrone Hendricks at the far post, who tapped into an empty net.
Siwelele equalised immediately after the break, when Mduduzi Nyanda dribbled the ball into the box before hitting a sweetly timed shot past Shu-Aib Walters 30 seconds into the half.
The goal gave Celtic renewed energy and Mutuma, on debut, had a great chance to give them the lead on the hour mark, after the ball evaded everybody in the box from a free-kick before falling at his feet, but he was unable to direct a strong effort towards goal, from point blank range.
Phunya Sele Sele had another good opportunity to take the lead when second half substitute Vuyani Ntanga got on the end of a long throw by Limbikani Mzava, but the striker blasted his shot over the crossbar.
Tsietsi Mahoa nearly snatched all three points for Celtic in the final minute, hitting a fierce effort from outside the area, but he only managed to trouble the post.
Despite dominating possession, Celtic had to settle for a draw, dropping to 10th on the log, while Maritzburg move up into fifth.
