Spanish team keeping tabs on Matlaba

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba may move overseas

Posted: 25 March 2013 Time: 2:22 pm

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba has caught the interest of teams abroad.

According to a source close to the player, La Liga in Spain could be his next destination.

"A Spanish guy who has been involved with one of South African teams is great admirer of Thabo Matlaba and he is trying to hook him up with one of the teams in Spain.

"I know for a fact that there are also some enquiries from Germany," the source says.

Matlaba, who has been a revelation for Pirates this season, was named man of the match during the World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic on Saturday.

In a chat with KickOff.com, Matlaba says that he has not heard of any overseas interest in him yet.

"My agent has not told me about any interest from overseas. Maybe he still has to brief me about it when we meet later this week.

"I must say that if it's true, the interest from overseas is great because it’s every player's dream to play in Europe. I am still very happy at Pirates and want to continue to honour my contract with the team.

"But this is football and if the right offer comes around and Pirates give me their blessing, then why not move and face new challenges in Europe?"

There are about 10 teams overseas that are of a slightly higher level than The Dream Team, and can afford our asking prices... if its neither of them, don't waste our time... the Spiritual owners won't agree on lousy transfers....

As for KickOff.... we know that is another one of your finder-finder attempts at a survey... just to check-out public perception & test the waters....

Enough with this type of journalism...
