Polokwane City were the first side to threaten to score in the match. Mashishi was ambitious when he tested Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune with a long-range effort from about 25-yards but Khune parried the goal-bound shot over for a corner.
Chiefs should have taken the lead in the 23rd minute through Kaizer Motaung Jnr. The striker received a lobbed ball in the box; with space and time on his side he sent his free header over the bar with the City keeper at his mercy.
Chiefs, however, took the lead in the 32nd minute through Ngcobo. The Limpopo outfit failed to clear a corner kick and then Siyabonga Nkosi capitalised by releasing a defence-splitting pass which Ngcobo calmly scored with a low shot to make it 1-0.
In the 48th minute Chiefs threatened to increase their lead when Ngcobo on the right flank pulled the ball back for Mandla Masanago, but the winger sent his shot just over the bar.
Chiefs doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Bernard Parker picked out Nkhatha at the near post and the striker, who had been on the field as a replacement for Ngcobo, scored with a low finish to end City’s hopes.
Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Mathoho, Mashamaite, Ritchie, Nkosi (Katsande 76’), Baloyi, Tshabalala, Ngcobo (Parker 68’), Motaung (Nkhatha 62’), Masango
