AmaZulu beat Platinum Stars 1-0 in the League

Posted: 6 March 2013 Time: 21:40

AmaZulu recorded back-to-back victories in the League when they defeated Platinum Stars 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

Njabulo Manqana scored the only goal of the match in added time to help Usuthu secure a much-needed home win.

The away side came close to taking an early lead when Tintswalo Tshabalala was left unmarked at the far post to receive a corner from Thuso Phala, but he could only send his shot over the target.

Ten minutes later it was Phala who was given too much space to run into the box on the left, but his shot found the foot of the near post.

Then in the 26th minute it was the home side who had a great chance to take the lead when Goodman Dlamini picked out Ayanda Dlamini inside the box, but he could only send his header over the crossbar.

The visitors rattled the woodwork yet again on the stroke of half time as Enocent Mkhabela could only watch his effort clipping the upright with Tapuwa Kapini scrambling to get across.

The second half started at high tempo with Dikwena creating the first threat in the 53rd minute, but Henrico Botes saw his shot blocked by a defender before Vuyo Mere fired straight at the goalkeeper.

Then in the 59th minute Ayanda Dlamini managed to get his shot on target after receiving a pass from Kulegani Madondo, but his effort lacked the pace to trouble Siyabonga Mpontshane.

A minute later substitute Lindokuhle Mbatha almost caught Kapini off his line with a brilliant curler, but the Amazulu goalkeeper recovered well to palm the ball over the crossbar.

Usuthu had yet another chance in the 81st minute when Marc Van Heerden ran with the ball from inside his own half, but the fullback could only fire his shot against the crossbar.

Nonetheless, Craig Rosslee’s men did eventually find the winner deep into added time as Kagiso Senamela found Manqana inside, who calmly slotted the ball past Mpontshane to send the home crowd into raptures.
