The Nigeria Football Federation yesterday banned journalists; Ezeocha Nze of The Guardian and Romanus Ugwu, Sun Newspapers, from covering its activities, for reasons believed to have stemmed from their constant criticism of the federation.
SWAN has consequently released a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Andrew Abbah in which they condemned the action of the NFF and issued it with a one week ultimatum to withdraw its statement barring sportswriters and consequently tender an apology.
The FCT chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists have also called on the NFF to rescind its purported ban.
In a statement signed by Chuks Ehirim, the chairman of NUJ's FCT chapter described the alleged ban by the NFF to hangover of the dictatorship that has become the bane of football development in the country.
Ehirim noted further that there is no law in Nigeria that empowers the NFF to bar any journalists from carrying on with his official duties.

If there is no law or constitution empowering the NFF to bar journalists, then why the outcry and protest. Just ignore them and keep doing your job. Why develop any headache over a seemingly meaningless effort of another?
