Bidvest Wits came back from an early goal down to beat Chippa United on Wednesday.
Brent Carelse had given the Chilli Boys an early lead, but goals by Matthew Pattison and Ryan Chapman ensured the win for Wits against the relegation strugglers.
Chippa took an unexpected lead in the ninth minute when Carelse controlled the ball inside the edge of the box and released a low left footed shot that Ryan Harrison could only watch as it went in at the far post.
In the 17th minute Pattison stepped up for a free-kick and hit a thunderous left-footed drive from 35 yards, towards the centre of goal. His effort was poorly handled by Daouda Kassaly, who parried into the path of the attacking Wits players, but his defence came to his aid to clear.
The home side levelled matters in the 40th minute, however, when Pattison received a ball from the right, and kept his composure to score with a deft touch.
The Clever Boys finished the first half as the stronger team, and 10 minutes into the second went ahead on the counter. Bongolwethu Jayiya showed his pace as he sprinted down the right and sent in a cross for Chapman to tap home at the far post.
Sandile Sibande was dismissed for a second yellow card, and the Clever Boys played out the dying minutes with 10 men.
