Kanu led the 1996 team that won Olympic gold in Atlanta, a victory that all but guaranteed legendary status and the former skipper says the players have no idea of their own achievement.

READ: Super Eagles are Nations Cup champs!

"I don't think they realise what they have just done.

"It will take a few years for them to understand what this achievement means not just to them, but to the country, but I am really proud of them."

Kanu says the players have shown that with belief, determination and team work, anything is possible.

"They were not the team with the biggest stars, but they played as a team, they fought for each other, believed n each other, and they have now received their reward."

Big up to Steven Keshi

It shows what the removal of dead wood in the national team can do.Gordon can learn a lot from this young man.

In SA, World Cup goal plays soccer, names plays soccer and real players are ommitted from the national team.

Remove dead wood in the national team and success is guranteed.Nigeria is a prime example...

Now here is a coach with only few months and the number of new players winning the trophy. We have here at home Gordon Ingasende with plenty of time and the same old players with 50+ caps failing to meet and mandade to reach the semi-finals at home and we are told to applaude that nonsese and he is given an extended contract because we are told, if the coach works for many years with the players he will win something. Crap!!!! Learn from the Nigerians!!!!

Keep complaining i guess you were born to do that and till your last day on earth.Since i have seen your comments on this site you ve been showing your hate for kaizer chiefs together with your fellow pirates supporters and dont blame Gordon you have yourselve to blame cos Nigerian stood together in difficulties. They had the same situation Keshi left some players which other nigerians were not happy at,but they decided to give their support for the sake of their country and your ass has been itching for the whole tournament cos chiefs had lot of players in BB and andile jali has'nt been included. To my suprise up to now you have never learnt that your support was needed for the occasion. You were busy supporting zambia or any other team playing against BB.Shame upon you.
