Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor had some strong words on the state of the pitch at the Mbombela Stadium

Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor had some strong words on the state of the pitch at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The Tottenham striker saw his side holding on for a 1-1 draw with Tunisia, which was enough to see his side through to the last eight, where they will play against Burkina Faso.

While he was elated with the result, the lanky marksman had some less than complimentary words about the playing surface.

“Once again we are in Africa - Afcon is a big tournament for Africa - the whole world are watching this, you can’t play on a pitch like this.

“To be honest with you I’m very sorry but it’s a disgrace for our continent to be playing on this pitch when it’s on the TV around the world.”

“Those people that watch the game in Europe, they will be sending sms’s to me tonight asking me, ‘are you playing in the bush or what’, it’s a disgrace to our continent, we can do better.”

The problem arose after soil had been thrown on the pitch to sort out the wet surface which arose after several days of heavy rain - a move which was apparently not sanctioned by the Confederation of African football (CAF).

Bobby Mutaung is to blame for this, that greedy fraudster.

It's raining all over the country, and all these stadium have a world class draining system. All except Mbombela who use sand as a means of sucking out water from the pitch.

What did he do with that money with which he was supposed to build a draining system for the stadium?

Bobby Mutaung is a Thief and it makes me sick to the stomach because now our country is being slammed by this Togolese who probably has a lesser quality stadium in his own country.

I hope he will rot in prison when they prove him guilty. Nxa

Who is Adebayor now? This tendency of always trying to please your European masters is a disgrace too, are we leaving to please the Europeans? The Europeans have their challenges as well, do you know about the world qualifier match that has been postponed between England and Poland recently in Warsaw? We are talking about the stadium that has a roof which is estimated at £400million here.

Stop this S.HIT about Europeans wena coconut-kwere, first is was security now the pitch. mxm

Insulting him doesn't change the fact that the condition of the pitch is appalling... And just for the record, the tournament wasn't imposed instead it was offered to safa who greedily accepted. Togo with its terrible stadiums wouldn't host a tournament that's going to be viewed internationally but greedy safa agreed

Tell your CAF that in the Southern region especially in January there's lots of rain, had this tournament been hosted in winter , we wouldn't be having this issue and the other thing is CAF is not like FIFA , FIFA t give you money to upgrade facilities and they leave a legacy , CAF is just useless, your anger is directed to the wrong people.Sir

South Africans never sieze to amaze me! Can't the truth be told anymore? Irrespective of where he comes from, if togo were awarded to host this Afcon, I'm sure they would've put up a better pitch than this mbombela pitch. Gabon and equitorial guinea hosted it, not even a single player complained about their pitches! I expected South Africa to lead by example, since they are the most developed country in Africa. Those calling Adebayor names should know that he has achieved more than your most popular footballer to come from SA (benni m'carthy) take heed and blame your LOC

Chiefs inyanga told them they must throw salt on it, look what they have done now...and before any tortoise jump the gun,it was shown on live TV

Besides the pitch, Daniel Bennet was pathetic....he thought Tunisia was Chiefs, making them all sorts of favours.

CAF must send him packing, we can't be disgraced by the pitch and the ways, hope it was his last game izolo....and am sure we will see him at Loftus on the 12th

Daniel Bennet is a disgrace to SA football, am proudly South African who doesn't want to be associated with people like Bennet,Chippa Mpegesi and Bobby Motaung

Having said that, am glad we playing at Mabhidha so the should be no excuses...asiyeni
