Keshi fancies chances against Ivorians

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is confident that his team will not quake in their boots when they face Ivory Coast

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is confident that his team will not quake in their boots when they face title favourites Ivory Coast in the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Nigeria moved into the next round of the competition after two late goals from Victor Moses helped the Super Eagles overcome a stubborn Ethiopian side, to finish second in Group C behind Burkina Faso and set up a quarter-final date with last year's losing finalists Ivory Coast.

Keshi has now moved to assure Nigerian fans that there is nothing to worry about, as he is confident in the abilities of his players to stem the tide against the star-studded Ivorian team.

"It is a different ball game. I respect the Ivoirians but we will approach the game with a different mentality than what we produced against Ethiopia and other group opponents,” Keshi said.

"I know you guys are worried about Ivory Coast and I don't know why. The Ivorians have a good team and we have a good team too. It is going to be a game of eleven players on each side. Ivory Coast is Ivory Coast and Nigeria is Nigeria, so anything can happen when we meet but I am sure we won't disappoint," he says.

The Super Eagles coach also stated that he has already started to strategise on how his team will play against the Ivorians.

"Now we face title favourites Ivory Coast. I have a game plan but that is for the players (not journalists)," he adds.

Conversation between Keshi and his players at the change room:

Keshi: "Now listen up guys, here is my plan...Moses, when you get to their 18 area you must dive again like you did against Ethiopia, and the referee will blow for a penalty; dont worry about anything, I've already given him his half of 1million naira and he's gonna get the balance after the match".
Ugo: "But coach, what about Drogba, that guy is very dangerous?".
Keshi:"Dont worry about that one, you must just hack him...the 1 million naira payment includes his hacking".
Enyeama: "What about Kolo Toure, coach?...that man kicks powerful shots.."
Keshi:"Geez! can you guys relax!....listen here, just hack anything that moves in an orange shirt...the 1 million naira will work for us; go ask the referee of our game against Ethiopia!, so shut up and get on with our game plan OR are you trying to get Siasia back? "

With respect, me thinks Mr Keshi "The Boss", was either misqouted or he had a meet with Nigerians selling drugs in SA and received a gram or two. I don'T THINK The Boss can say the above in his his sober senses. Perhaps under the influence of narcotics, i.e cocaine.

The writting is on the wall unless one is blind or high on mandrax.

You are smoking The Bull's dung and socks Boss and they making you excessively delusional, excited and super arrogant. Ivory Coast will serve a huge dish of humble pie that will sober you up and bring you back to your senses.

YOU GUYS HAVE SAID IT ALL, I NEVER BELIEVED IN KESHI RIGHT FROM THE DAY HE WAS APPOINTED AS OUR COACH BUT SUPPORTED HIM JUST TO LOOK FORWARD AND BELIEVING THAT HE MUST HAVE GOTTEN SOME MORE EXPERIENCE AFTER HIS FAILURE WITH MALI. WHAT I AM SEEING IS THE SAME UNDER EXPERIENCE COACH. NFF SHOULD START IMMEDIATELY LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR HIM NOW IN A FOREIGN COACH OR TO ACT AS TECHNICAL DIRECTOR WHILE HE LEARN FROM HIM0. SIMPLE.

DON'T THINK IT WAS KESHI THAT WON THE GAME, PLS IT WAS ONLY THE HARD WORK OF THE BOYS AND THE ZEAL OF ONE INDIVIDUAL. I CANT STAKE MY MONEY ON THIS TEAM SO I DONT HAVE HEART ATTACK BUT ALL THE SAME IT IS MY COUNTRY SO I WISH THEM GOOD LUCK AGAIN SUPER EAGLES IN YOUR NEXT MATCH.

A lot of us in this forum are destined to believe that the SE will roll over for CIV will walk all over us. I do disagree with that school of thought. I believe will be a different ball game that will incite a different game plan. One major draw back is the absence of Ogude in the MF (2 yellow cards). CIV is very much going to be under immense pressure and the SE will play as if they have nothing to loose. Every body expects CIV to win that game and it can be very traumatic if by the 45th min the game is still draw. To fantasize, I will deploy Efe in the MF to play behind Mikel and mark Yaya Toure in the MF. I will pair Moses and Emenike upfront and flank Mikel with Mba and Uzoenyi (yes, Uzoenyi may be the joker in the team). Then the defence will be Elderson (LFB), Oboabona and Yobo (CDF) and Omeruo (RFB). Enyeama in goal. Good luck boys. So it will be a 4-4-2 with a diamond formation, with Mikel at the tip of the diamond.

It is become damning and irritating why we are in a hurry to fire the coach. Same Nigerian mentality, quick results, cutting corners and using apiam way to achieve incredible results. Samson Siasia did not take us to the last edition of the Nations cup, the same Ethiopia he could not defeat with the stars on parade that year have been defeated by Keshi's super chicken. Siasia has a problem just like Keshi too. Firing Keshi will not help. It takes a long time to build a team. Burkinafaso started building this team more than 4 yrs ago. Remember that they were in the last edition of ACN. Cape Verde also started building this team more than 4 yrs ago, with university students. CIV, we need not to think too deep to remember that they have been together for more than seven years (ie the core of the team). Just analyse our team with objective mind. These guys have never been together before now, they have never played in any major tournament and yet they have managed to make it to the QF of this edition of ACN, which to me is even more difficult than the last edition Siasia could not qualify us for. We praised Keshi when he qualified us by beating Liberia mercilessly. He kept on reminding all of us all that this team is a work in progress. Why have we easily forgotten his statement. World cup qualifiers is around the corner, why can we not be patient enough with this team. May be it is because we had so much expectations about their ability. From my point of view, this team have impressed me. On their ability to beat CIV, QED.

To be honest is not the best advise to be firing coaches but the problem with the NFF is they do not have a sound technical department or they are too corrupt. Tell me what are the perimeter used in hiring coaches for SE. Keshi is not a good coach throught out our group stage matches you can see there is no technicality in Nigeria games not to talk of the team selection or substitution. Please is high time we need to tell ourselves the truth . We need a good sound foreign coach that under Africa football. NFF has failed us all with their decision on selecting coaches for the national team
