Township TV has acquired the public viewing rights from SABC, making sure that those who can’t get to the stadia have the opportunity to watch the games for free in a friendly, secure ‘fan park’ atmosphere.
The PSL games continue to draw big crowds to the parks and AFCON 2013 is going to be a big plus for the local residents.
“We are extremely grateful to the SABC, for granting the public viewing license at no cost”, says Township TV CEO Graeme Joffe. “Township TV is a 2010 World Cup legacy that has been totally dependent on the goodwill of corporate South Africa.”
As title sponsors, DStv have thrown their weight behind the social responsibility project that not only provides free daily entertainment but also assists in getting kids off the street, reducing crime, uplifting the communities and creating job opportunities.
More kids also now have greater opportunities to see their sporting icons live on television and this will hopefully create more sporting champions for South Africa.
Township TV erected its first big screen in Diepsloot back in 2007 thanks to the great partnership with Jo’burg City Parks and today, there are 22 sites across the country. The latest one is Ezakheni Park in Ladysmith.
The success of Township TV continues to grow and they’ve now been granted the rights to set up three more big screens in Cape Town (Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Delft).
The Township TV sites have become fan parks 365 days a year as kids and adults continue to enjoy the free entertainment in a safe, secure environment.
