Niger is in Group B of the finals with Maazou named as one of the players in the squad.
Chippa have been chasing Maazou since June and claim to have completed all the formalities – via his agent – that come with signing a new player including making payments.
Though the 24 year-old has since joined Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel in the midst of all the chaos that has stuck with his apparent signing for Chippa, the Chilli Boys haven’t given up just as yet.
“The agent failed to make the deal happen the last time out, but we will use the AFCON as an opportunity to get the player to us or to at least resolve all the complications around this matter,” Wandisile Mbenguzana, the Chippa GM tells KickOff.com.
“We still have a foreign space reserved for him, but then we will not force the matter if the player doesn’t want to join. All along we have been relying on his agent in as far as trying to get him is concerned because we have had previously dealings with this particular agent. So the fact that he is going to be here for the AFCON will help us to finally resolve this issue.
“Our dealings regarding this player have been with the agent all along and he is the one that we will have to seek answers from if this deal doesn’t happen again during the January transfer window,” explains Mbenguzana.
Maazou is a nomadic striker who has already been to eight clubs both in Africa and Europe – despite being just 24 – and has scored twice already for Etoile du Sahel in the five games he has played since joining.
Etoile du Sahel lead Group B of the Tunisian Ligue 1 at the halfway stage.
