Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi named his provisional African Nations Cup squad on Friday, with Osaze Odewmingie, Obafemi Martins and Taye Taiwo the big omissions.

By contrast, Danny Shittu was a surprise recall along with places for Portland Timbers' Bright Dike and Newcastle's Shola Ameobi.

I'm amazed by the exclusion of Osaze & Martins and the inclusion of Emenike whose coach has just asked to reduce his weight if he is to do well in his sporting activities.Keshi should be reminded that the coach advise to Emenike was prompted by his current poor form.Though this striker is one of my favourites in the Eagles squard but his current form calls for his re-assessment.And the inclusion of Dickson, the US based striker still raises question than answer. Is the selection really based on merit or is foul play involved? Nigerians are sick and tired of this bias selecting of players when it matter most. All I can say is good luck my darly Eagles

Nigerians love to open their mouths and criticize a coach's team selection without considering the needs in the various departments of a team. When you compare the inclusion of a defender against the exclusion of a striker or midfielder, it simply shows you don't understand team selection. How can a reasonable person compare Ike Uche with Kalu Uche or Danny Shittu with Osaze Odewingie? Again, team selection is based on the needs of each department. Please keep quiet if you can't understand this simple fact.

@ Omodan,as you can see the four players I mentioned are all strikers, not comparing defender to striker as you just said.

@Omodan, my brother u be the man wey sabi... the problem we have with nigerians is that they criticize without no reason,, just because they heard others complain they follow along to criticize. but at the long run the wise ones will sit and analyze their ignorance.

the same Nigerians that complained that our defends is nothing to write home about with Godfrey Oboabona and Azubuike Egwuekwe in place.. they are stil criticizing Keshi for trying to strengthen the defends by inviting the best defender eagles have at the moment (Danny Shittu).

some even ask why they left Osaze to invite Shittu,, nawaooo, when someone is dyeing you only call a doctor not a Lawyer.. we are talking about strengthening our defends, so pairing Yobo and Shittu at the central defends is the best we have, at least for now. even if we have to charge Keshi for something, that should be his inclusion of Ameobi at the expense Osaze. but however osaze's wife will be putting to bed this January according him.
if we reason am, with his wife in hospital bed in January,, my people i dont know how the dude will concentrate 100% in South Africa

Osaze propaganda...no one person is greater than Naija. Serves Osaze right. He needs a proper PR ..a lil too late now as I don't see Keshi leaving that office in the next 3yrs. And for all them haters of Keshi, u ll all eat ur own words. Keshi is d most experienced active African ex-player turned manager just now n I don't think he's that stupid. There's no need for this sort of headline at all....absolute garbage ! Twitter has not in any way erupted ok. Keshi isn't Big Boss for nothing, he's not just afraid to stick to his principles. Colin sorry bout ur mate Osaze but we ve moved on.

If Keshi is getting on this site to read our comments at this crucial period of preparation, then he is more unseriouse than many think. The man has no time for our opinion here, and that is understandable.
Anyone is free to criticize anyone. President Goodluck Jonathan is not above the peoples criticism (constructive or non constructive). Some people are ok with Keshi's selection while some are not, period. If everyone heaps praises at you, then you are as good as dead. Lets not forget that criticism is not only meant to tear down, but also to challange one into success. Imagine coming to this site and all you read is one sided opinion. Diversified opinions is the beauty of what makes this forum interesting. Finally, if you are a Nigerian working in Nigeria, you must expect to work under not just pressure, but intense pressure. Let everyone bear their mind or forever remain silent. May God Bless the Super Eagles.

I can smell some rats here.. Keshi should let us know he is dropping Osaze for personal reasons and he should stop playing politics with us. Osaze does not have to beg or kiss up b4 he plays for the national team. On current form, Osaze should be on that team. Keshi is just looking for reasons to drop the player to make room for his own boys. If Osaze is not coming to camp on time, let it come from him and since he has not called you to say so, give the boy a chance and stop manufacturing reasons to drop the boy. Keshi please stop this stupid politics we have known you for during your playing days when as a Captain, you needed to be fair to all your colleagues in camp, but you chose to form mafia group to dictate to the coaches which players to invite to camp and who should be in the first eleven.

The reason why a lot of people are complaining is because Keshi claimed objectivity was the watch word in selecting this team. But this team is everything but. Look at those omitted and compare to those selected. Then ask yourself what was the criteria?

Ejike Uzoenyi in Osaze and Aluko out
Rabiu Ibrahim in Lukman Haruna out
Bright Dike in Oba Martins out
Shola Ameobi in Kalu Uche out
Godfrey Oboabona in Apam out

These players re human. They can take this personal and assume that our national coach and the people who support him believe that Uzoenyi is better than Aluko and Osaze. This will affect their commitment to us. This is very demoralizing .

The way this kind of situation is handled here, the gaffer calls up everyone who is expecting a call up to tell them try are not in the list, one on one. Next time they may not trust him if he did not do this. Keshi better win this or he has really made life difficult for himself moving forward. Slyman

Petres Sanchez!

Let me give you guys my Honest and expert view of the team list:
I would only point out inclusions and exclusions that have raised eyebrows on Social media...
1. Rabiu Ibrahim:
This guy was included because,
a. He is the only player in Nigeria that is "Crafty" Yes I said so. "Crafty" No other player can give you what he will
b. You said he has only played one substitute appearance for Celtic? Yes, But Celtic is a Champions League team and if you bring our Valerenga guy@Ogude here, he wouldn't make Celtic bench
c. Have you read about a certain "Dos Santos" of Mexico who made no appearance for Tottenham but was one of the best performers at the FIFA World Cup
d. Finally Rabiu has a big heart like "Moses" a xteics many of our players lack, I remember him stating that he would only be playing for a club if there are title champions or UCL participants:e.g PSV,
SPORTING, CELTIC

2. Taiwo
I agree with all those calling for his head, this guy wouldn't bring anything new to the table

3. Shittu
His inclusion is "Madness" This guy was once rejected by all clubs even Enyimba, He's too heavy and slow

4.Bright Dike
I have said it before now, He's below average, Skill-less and heavy

5. Ameobi
12 Games before a goal....@Newcastle says it all we have only 6games @afcon so I would use guys that are use to goals not those that can hold ball because in Africa you don't hold ball except you wanna be hacked

Lets see the exclusions

Osaze:
He's useful but!!! we can't bench him and we can't start him,..not better than Musa and Victor on the wings and Brown + Emenike attack ..and if we bench him, it becomes a social problem..what will you do?

Obafemi:
This is the biggest mistake Nigeria made! You rate martins with venezuela match infact he needs no testing, one of the top 5greatest goal scorers in our country..Men we failed there @Dike and the rest homebased know they are far from martins quality. Check this out we only have Emenike and Martins as the strikers that can play alone upfront in the whole country! what if emenike goes bad?or tired?or injured?
Can bright, kalu and co play alone?

Aluko:
In African football there would always be set-pieces infact when we meet CIV the decider may be a set-piece from Drog. Why leave the only Player that can do that. Crazy eh?

Haruna:
Mad People always call for Mad people. He's a defensive midfielder so compare his inclusions with those playing same positions(Mikel, Reuben and Nosa) don't compare his inclusion with R.Ibrahim(attacking)

Kalu Uche: LOOOLLL
I wonder how many strikers you want to take
When you want to rate strikers use this formula its gonna help you
Number of Goals/Class of Defenders
Am sure your maths worked well, then you realize Brown Ideye and Emenike are the Biggest

Obasi/Nsofor/Kayode
People that are calling for these players esp. Obasi, don't have satelite TVs in their houses
Obasi Last started for S-04 7Months Ago
Nsofor just recovered, never played 90minutes in 7months

Generally I would say that the exclusions of Martins and Aluko are not justifiable but I see tactical knowledge in the initial inclusion of Rabiu (he might not pass so don't be bothered) But we all should support the coach

@spoton, It's only you and your likes who will term my comment as 'fixative' . Look at the semantics of my lexical items and not your already biased thought. I never said Mikel is maradona or Zidane either. People can never in their lives admit simple truth , which is the major reason why Nigeria is at it's current state. Abeg take your 'wahala' to somewhere else and tell them that you didn't see me , lol.
