Maritzburg United defender Mohammed Awal has made the cut for Ghana's provisional 2013 Africa Cup of Nations squad announced by head coach Kwesi Appiah.

The former Asante Kotoko defender was in fact included in the Black Stars squad last month, but he was not able to arrange a visa in time to travel to Portugal to play against Cape Verde - but he's got a second chance ahead of the tournament.

Ghana, who are in Group B with DR Congo, Niger and Mali, will trim their squad to 23 after camp in Abu Dhabi next month.

Maritzburg United commercial manager Younus Kadodia says the 24-year-old has been outstanding for the club.

"Mohammed has been a fantastic signing for us, making one of the centre-back berths his own with some sterling performances… It is great that his form has been recognised," he tells MUFC.com.

I see a proficiency in midfield and deficiency in Forward. That has always been the case with Ghana.
