Mamelodi Sundowns held by Free State Stars

Posted: 5 December 2012 Time: 22:02

Pitso Mosimane started his reign as Mamelodi Sundowns coach with a 1-1 draw against Free State Stars at Charles Mopeli Stadium.

The game started more than 30 minutes late due to heavy rain, but Downs soon got into their stride and took the lead on 24 minutes when through Eleazar Rodgers.

They looked to be heading for a win, but Tebogo Langerman put the ball past his own goalkeeper with just a few minutes to go.

Downs were slow starters and allowed Free State to control the play early on, which they did by creating a chance in the eighth minute when Dove Wome beat a couple defenders and took a shot from a tight angle, but Wayne Sandilands saved the shot.

That scare, however, was a wake-up call for Mosimane’s men and they began dictating the flow of the game, with Anthony Laffor in particular creating some havoc.

In the 14th minute Laffor supplied a beautiful pass from the right to see Teko Modise through on goal but, with only the keeper to beat, the midfielder seemed to kick the ground, resulting in his shot going wide from 14 yards out.

Ten minutes later and Laffor was in the thick of the action again; this time pressing down the left and making his way into the 18-yard box, drawing the keeper off his line before toe-poking the ball to an unmarked Rodgers, who beat one defender before firing home.

Stars had the final say in the dying seconds of the half; Moeketsi Mvula made use of some space down the right and burst into the box before unleashing his shot, but Sandilands saved again.

The second 45 was all Stars, but despite their dominant display they were not really able to create a decent chance. Instead they had to force the Sundowns defence into a mistake which resulted in them going level in the 73rd minute.

Stars whipped a teasing corner into the near post and Langerman, jumping in front of his keeper, accidently headed the ball into his own net.

Neither side could find the winner as the match ended all square which sees Downs remain second from bottom while Stars sit in sixth place.

We must all thank Pitso 4 giving Thami Sangweni nd Pelembe chances 2nyt...those good players wer dying slowly during The Neesken's reign!! Nd he also dd well by getting rid of Nyandoro, nw Schut nd Langermaan shud b the next ones to go

Play Kekana more oftenly, buy a good keeper nd two central defenders in January...release all the stands-occupying players to teams which need them e.g Orlando PieRats

RTG in full swing!!!!!

There some positives. Pelembe looked like he wanted to play and Sangweni was given a chance to stake his claim in the starting eleven and killed showed glimpses of why he is the best striker in SA.

Pitso please persist with your arrogance at the board room until Trott and Makhanya fokoff. Equally, they must be joined by Cowjers, Cowrendse, Mwanjali, Langerman, Schut. Phela there is no shoe-shine in these guys.

Teboho Langerman?
the Guy made it clear on the newspaper that he dont want to play for $undowns, watching thegame close last night every ball that he got was not intend to go 4ward always played back to the Sandilands. Remember the Penalty against Maritzburg in the last minute of the game.

im sure Pitso will analysize the game and we will start to get the + results

Langerman is costing us big time. He conceded the penalty against Arrow at the dying minutes of the game and now this, Khumalo can do better.

Dove Wome can fit in well to Downs style of play not Erusmas that is rumoured that Downs want him. We have enough second strikers at Downs currently what we need to strenghten is our defence and attacking midfielder.

Pitso Mosimane listen to us as fans of Sundowns, don't follow what Neeskens did. How can you play this Girrafe Rodgers and put the lethal Edward Manqele in stands? How can you continue play this cow Schut? That Dutch should go and leave our team or else you will be ashamed of yourself if you won't listen to us!

If you have played soccer, you will know that it takes a certain time for players to adapt to a new coach: you can walk in this week and expect the players to grasp your approach right there and then: if Pitso won yesterday then we would have mistaken giving him the credit: with time , we will see his tactics, techniques and his system: for now, we are still under Neeskens philosopher and spell: To Downs fans, being patient and yet showing ama signs of understanding football is just essential: otherwise we will be exerting unncessary pressure on our coach: on my playing days, a draw away from home was a plus on our bonus structure: so as much as we wanted the maximum points,,,,still we performed satisfactory, according to the standards of football: Pitso well done, a draw for Free State Stars should be a worry: we will slowly but surely move from the relegation zone...there is still more wins, draws and looses to come, having said that: Mamelodi Sundowns will be in the Top Eight come the end of the season: you can agree or disagree...
