Bidvest Wits and University of Pretoria their league match

Posted: 5 December 2012 Time: 21:22

Bidvest Wits and the University of Pretoria could not find the net as they played to a goalless draw at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

The match got off to a frantic start when Papy Faty was presented with a golden opportunity, but he fluffed it when his multiple close-range shots were saved by Tuks keeper Washington Arubi in the first minute.

The match went into a quiet phase from then onwards and we had to wait until the 20th minute when AmaTuks failed to clear a free-kick. The rebound fell to Sibusiso Vilakazi, who blasted his effort high from just outside the box.

Eight minutes later AmaTuks full-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele unleashed a thunderous shot from 30 yards out which Ryan Harrison held onto with ease.

In the 35th minute Tuks’ towering forward Mame Niang won a high ball when he got in between Thomas Sweswe and Aaron Mokoena. He brilliantly controlled the ball and unleashed a left-footed shot, but again Harrison saved.

With the halftime break looming Ryan Chapman broke free on the left, but his low left-footed shot was saved.

In the 50th minute David Radebe’s tame shot was easily grabbed by Harrison after Dipsey Selolwane and Mphahlele had constructed a brilliant move in the midfield.

Selolwane then benefited from a Niang headed pass and forced the match’s best save out of Harrison, with the Wits keeper parrying the ball out for a corner after 78 minutes.

In the 84th minute Niang almost stole three points for the visitors when he went close with a header from a corner, but it was not to be as they shared the spoils.
