Serero had a storming start to the season in Holland, scoring three times in four matches, but then tore a groin muscle in a match against ADO Den Haag on September 23 and missed international friendlies against Poland and Kenya, as well as Champions League action against Manchester City, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
With an original return date of January mooted, there were also fears Serero would miss the Africa Cup of Nations. But not it seems the club are confident he will return sooner, and he is penciled in for reserve team football in a week's time.
"Thulani Serero will play not this Monday but next Monday at Ajax," De Boer was quoted by the club's official Twitter account.
The club is hoping the 22-year-old will be back in time for a League match against Willem II on December 16.
Following that Ajax play two more games before the Christmas break, so Serero will have little time to prove to Gordon Igesund that he is ready for the Afcon in January.

He shouldn't have gone to Amsterdam...
he has regressed as a footballer, the training methods there are inferior & detrimental to his health, this is his 3rd major injury since joining Amsterdam and worst of all he has missed out on being legend being spoken about in folklore for centuries to come for being a Double-Treble-Champion....
