‘Time for us to stand up’ – Moloto

Posted: 2008-05-23 06:40

Mamelodi Sundowns caretaker coach Trott Moloto along with his counterpart at Mpumalanga Black Aces Kenny Ndlazi believe the Nedbank Cup Final on Saturday is a platform for local coaches to prove their worth while at the same raising the profile of local black coaches.

“If you are black in this country, you will always be underestimated, and will have to always do the incredible to get the slightest recognition,” says Moloto.

“But this is a time for us to prove that we have the ability to do the job and deserve to take charge. So ke yona nako [this is the time] for us to stand up,” he added at a pre-match press conference on Thursday.

"Check the Bible and see what happened in the battle between David and Goliath. And, by the way, Aces never go to extra-time"
- Peter Koutroulis

Ironically, Moloto’s future at the helm of Sundowns’ squad remains in doubt despite having fared well since taking over as a foreign coach is rumoured to be on his way to the club to elbow him off the top seat.

“This is an opportunity for us local coaches to be counted up there as coaches that can be trusted. I pay tribute to Gavin Hunt and Craig Rosslee for all the good that they showed this season with their teams,” said Ndlazi, adding that his team is ready for the weekend Final.

“Our team is focused. We have senior players, like Eddie Dinha, that have been there before and who are playing a crucial role in helping our youngsters prepare for the match.

“As much as we are aware that there is big money to be won in this competition, what motivates us even further is the prospect of being able to play in Africa, in the Confederations Cup, if we win.

“I don’t know whether there has ever been a team from the lower divisions playing in this continental competition,” said Ndlazi whose team arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday and has already trained at the match venue.

Dubbed the ‘David versus Goliath’, the Final provides Sundowns with a chance to redeem themselves in a season in which they have failed to defend their League title.

“Let us see whether they (Aces) can stand the 90 minutes on Saturday,” said Moloto who will be without Benson Mhlongo.

“Benson picked up an ankle injury at training this morning which means he is on Saturday and will also not be available to honour his call-up to the national team,” added Moloto.

Mhlongo collided with a team-mate at training and left the training ground walking with the aid of crutches.

He joins injured goalkeeper Calvin Marlin and defender Mbulelo Mabizela and suspended defender Luvhengo Mungomeni, who received his third yellow card in the 4-0 loss to Free State Stars last Sunday.

Aces, dubbed ‘David’ by virtue of their playing in the lower division, believe that Biblical justice will prevail on Saturday.

“Check the Bible and see what happened in the battle between David and Goliath. And, by the way, Aces never go to extra-time,” says Aces’ CEO Peter Koutroulis.

Peter Koutroulis is spot on, Aces never went to extra time and they will not go to extra time against 'Downs. Because how can you go to extra time whereas you are trailing?

I think some people are lazy to think, I'm not insulting anybody's intelligence but I'm getting annoyed by these football followers who keeps on doubting the capabilities of Sundowns FC. Yes it's true that u might hate the team but I think u r that blind to c what is the club capable of. Secondly these pple I'm talking about are always against Sundowns even if is continental competitions, shouldn't we stand 2gether and support each other when playing CAF?
Plz good pple, u can do better than that, I think KickOff made this column for our constructive views.

Amakwerekwere should be beaten to death, all of them! This would teach them a lesson that SA is strict country. In top countries like US, Britain you can only find aliens who got into the country for professional services. Why does SA need to be lenient towards aliens while they bring lot of problems in our country? Each and every person in the universe has their countries of origin, so be proud of your country even if it is difficult. Why disturb others in their countries. Keep beating the foreigners until they all die!!!

Please Go back home soon.I'm tired of protecting you. One of you took my wife, because you were stronger than me.

DUDE!!!!!HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT MARA!!!! THERE RE WAYS TO DEAL WITH THIS SITUATION; BUT NOT BURNING AND BEATTING PEOPLE..... NO NO NO.....

I understand why people say Sundowns perfomed poorly this year. The reason is that they expect Sundowns to win the League, Supa/Top 8, Telkom Cup, Nedbank Cup & Caf Champion.

Sundowns has reached all Local Cup final- Expectation exceeded.

Sundowns is currently Top 4- That fair

Generally from Anti-Sundowners we have nt achieve enough, as you expect we will prove to you tat we are the BEST

That is what we call achievemnt...... And its not over night...... You work on it baba!!!!!build an empire and look back proudly...... you will get there one day......

The Game: 2008-05-23 09:14

That's a good record if not the best...but I was referring to 2008 season....guess you have to accept sometimes that they are sum other teams who are hungry for success....so it's not fair for sum of your guys to hope that doesn't happen.....tyms have changed...so as the dominance of sum tyms....I see you were unstoppable in the 70's and 80's....and 90's.....

DONT FORGET THE 2003/4 and the 2004/5 seasons.....And yeaah, things have taken a slide, but the trophies kept coming in every season after that my man.....We have the Telkom Cup this season......!!!!

sifiso: 2008-05-23 09:21

You should have said expecially Pirates?????? they've gone more than 6 seasons without a major trophy....Now that is something to be worried about as a fan!!!!

sifiso: 2008-05-23 09:26

I said Sundowns is going to win this tournament after they defeated us. I'm not going to lie to you and say..... he he Aces....he he..Aces.... My man, i played this game and represented my country at Junior level... i even became a Soccer Journo and got recognition for this game before moving onto PR.....All i can say is that i'll be watching the game... i'm gonna come hear and highlight mistakes.... as to who win.... I dont care.....If Pirates were in the final then i would because of the rivalry that has been between Chiefs and Pirates for many years......But Tomorrow's one.... No preditions baba......As for you, you have every right to support your team because without your support they are nothing.....

Very interesting stats sifiso, but we can only comment about achievements from 1999 when the PSL was established. I mean, how can I comment on Sales House cup and Stylo competition when I know nothing about them? And also do us a favour, don't count the Vodacom cup as only 2 SA teams participate in that. Your record is not to bad, that's until 1999/2000 season.

Styles: 2008-05-23 09:55

Sfiso,
Nice argument guys as to who is the best or has a rich history, and yo personal past involvement in da game.

I think we all should accept that the days of Chiefs monopoly of local soccer r a thing of the past now. U not gonna "win everything on offer" my friend, u know that. Neither r u gonna attract top talent anymore. This soccer has just got too competitive and rich. Only Madrid gets every player they want. I like yo stance on da final tomorrow.

Mtseboz: 2008-05-23 10:08

I wish we could have constructive debates like what I've been reading below. That's what the site was created for in the first place. That's until OoProfessor aka Mgeks come in. **** these guys can talk a lot of crap.

Andrew: 2008-05-23 10:39

Mr Motsepe are you listening to Trott? His a former Bafana Bafana coach...and turned your team into a well oiled machine within few games in charge! The mood is high in your camp and the players respond to Trott coaching methods...why are you bringing a foreing coach? South African coaches are under rated but if you look at england , italy , germany, spain and brazil...they embrace their coaches and respect them. Why a guy like Kenny Ndlazi is not coaching on PSL is beyond my understanding! This guy was on the bench when U23 hammered Brazil in the olympics back in 2000! Charity begins at home and we should be "Prouldy South African" !

I think Kickoff must establish a way of scanning all this comments before being read by other people cause really im sick and tired of people missusing this platform to biuld our lovely game of football and people pls stick to the topic dont just comment for the sake of it and stop using upseting words and insulting players or each other as fans please.
