Match report: Bloemfontain Celtic beat Chippa United in Telkom Knockout

Posted: 21 October 2012 Time: 17:14

Chippa United suffered Telkom Knockout agony as they surrendered a one-goal lead to go down 2-1 to Bloemfontein Celtic at a rainy Philippi Stadium on Sunday.

It was a first cup win in 11 games for Celtic, while Chippa's first TKO match was a loss.

The first half went the way of Phunya Sele Sele as the visiting team created several good scoring opportunities but failed to convert them.

The first chance came after five minutes when Abduraghmaan White made a great save to deny Letladi Madubanya.

In the 11th minute White found himself scampering across goal to try and keep out Ruzaigh Gamaldien's free-kick, which dipped but went just over the bar.

More chances followed for the visiting team, as Gamaldien's header went just over the bar, and then towards the end of the half Lyle Lakay and Joel Mogorosi both squandered chances from within 10 metres of goal.

The home side showed improved commitment after the break and reaped the rewards on 60 minutes when Buyani Sali took advantage of a slip-up in the Celtic defence between Patrick Tigynemb and Thabo Nthethe to put the ball into an empty net.

The Cape team appeared to be in command at that point as they continued to look dangerous on attack.

But Phunya Sele Sele managed to avoid conceding a second goal and started to mount their own attacks, eventually getting back on level terms when following a goalmouth scramble Dominic Isaacs crashed the ball into goal.

The Free State side could smell victory and the comeback was completed when Jacky Motshegwa rifled home a superb a low drive.
