The Spanish international came in for a lot of stick following a disappointing start to life at Stamford Bridge and the pressure his £50million transfer from Liverpool brought.
Torres says it took a lot of inner-strength to get him back into the right frame of mind.
“Last season there was a moment when I lost the values I learnt when I was a child,” he tells El Pais.
“I had many teammates who didn't care about winning or losing if they didn't play. I didn't want to be like them, but there was a moment when I realised that I didn't care either.”
He adds: “I also realised I was not happy as I was not the person I wanted to be.”
However, the sacking of Andre Villas Boas and subsequent appointment of Roberto di Matteo as new coach brought about a change in fortunes for Torres.
“The change of coach has made me a better player. I can control now some issues I didn't control in the past.”
