Former Kilmarnock, Manning Rangers, Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Chad Harpur has quit the game and he has now opted to take on a sporting director role in Spain.

The 30-year-old will resume with his duties on October 15 at the popular La Manga Club in Spain.

"I have just accepted the position of Sporting Director at the club. It is an awesome place so I'm looking forward to that," he tells

Harpur says he is "sad" to walk away from the playing fields. "I have quit… it is over and it is sad but it is time to look to the future and this is a great opportunity," he admits.

"All the top clubs in Europe as well as national teams train at the La Manga Club during the off season or when they get a week off during the season to get some good weather training and I'm hoping to bring Bafana Bafana here in future," he adds.

Good for you Chad, I will always remember you as one of the worst goalies to ever play pro futbal. It will be unfair to Wayne Brown to give you the crown as he takes hands down. Useless goalkeepers

@ Anonymous,
You say luck overweigh much more than talent. I remember him overwright while he was playing for maning rangers. His weight was not luck but reflective of a mummy's baby....!
