Match report: Orlando Pirates beat University of Pretoria

Posted: 7 October 2012 Time: 17:32

Orlando Pirates ended University of Pretoria's unbeaten League run on Sunday.

The Buccaneers were stunned in the opening minutes by Tuks, but they recovered like true defending champions to score three unanswered goals and bag three valuable points.

The game started off at a slow pace with both teams testing each other in the opening minutes, before Bongani Zungu got the better of the advancing Moeneeb Josephs after receiving a pass from Siyabonga Shoyisa.

The goal sparked more life into Pirates and they started to press forward in search of the equaliser.

Collins Mbesuma and Onyekachi Okwonkwo tried their luck for the equaliser, and after a series of attacks on Tuks' defence, Pirates were rewarded when Mbesuma found the back of the net after a defence splitting pass by Sifiso Myeni.

Immediately after restart, Oupa Manyisa had a chance to hand Bucs the lead, but was denied by the diving clearance of Siyabonga Shoyisa with his goalkeeper stranded.

In the 57th minute Mame Niang watched in disbelief when his point blank header ricocheted off the upright, with Josephs and his defence well-beaten.

Pirates powered forward with an attack of their own and Ramahlwe Mphahlele was judged to have brought down Manyisa in the box.

Jali, who had been yellow carded moments before, sent Washington Arubi the wrong way from the penalty spot as the Buccaneers took the lead for the first time in the game.

Mbesuma then registered his second of the game, beating Arubi after another defence splitting pass from man of the match Myeni.

They called him names,
They said he was too fat,
They said he failed to score @ arrows then on which basis he was signed @ the mighty OPFC,
Those who know and respect him call him NTOFONTOFO,
They told us about Niang,
They told us about Ngoma,
They played to a nil nil draw with Celtic when they promised to beat them for us,
They get beaten by smaller teams,
They think because they are being harassed by smaller team from lower league the same happens with the mighty OPFC,
They are now shivering and scared that we are right behind them,
We told them that the league is not won in six games,
Tiyane who is a zebra and brian and Craig predicted a draw, in a way ruling out any possibility of the Champs walloping Tuk-Chiefs,
If you are wondering which ANIMALS am talking about go to the nearest ZOO,

What a boring match. No atmosphere at all. 500 (five hundred spectators) watching a so-called big team. What a shame. I switched off after 10 minutes to watch the cricket T20 match.

Anyway as a Khosi all I can say is CATCH US IF YOU CAN !

Just when they said we lost the coming from behind-spirit we showed them once more that they cannot underestimate the power of being a champ.

We don't score tap-ins,

we score beautiful, well class, well engineered, scintillating, carpet fooball and finish with stylish goals.

I said that this is a marathon and am still repeating,

We are on track and we march on towards reclaiming what is ours...foward we go

I am a very strong critic of the signing of Collins Mbesuma but I am happy that he is proving me wrong.

I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the Double Treble Champions for restoring the order that was lost when a Mvela University of Pretoria beat a PSL Kaizer Chiefs. We will never allow minnows to beat our zebras and get away with it.

Up the Bucs until zebras win a treble
