Bidvest Wits defender Thomas Sweswe sustained deep cuts to his mouth after a collision with teammate Aaron Mokoena during a training session on Saturday.
The Zimbabwean defender, who had to be stitched up by the doctor, has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks.
This means he will not be part of the team that will play against his former club Kaizer Chiefs on Monday.
"I would have wanted to play [against Chiefs] but I have to rest to allow the healing process," Sweswe tells KickOff.com.
"Injuries happen in football and you just have to be patient until you fully recover. I am confident that we will come out with a positive result," he adds.
