Nigeria's Super Falcons opened camp on Sunday with coach Kadiri Ikhana making his African Women Championship objectives clear to his players.

"We want to retain the title so nothing short of one hundred per cent commitment is needed.

"I hope the players will make it difficult for me to choose my final team for the tournament," he told his charges.

Ikhana has invited 27 players to the camp and 23 of those pitched up on the first day, with the tournament just five weeks away.

"We did not get as much time as we would have liked so we have to start our programs immediately.

"The tournament is just five weeks away so we have a short time to train and choose the best players to represent the country in Equatorial Guinea."

The coach invited nine players who featured for the National Under-20 side, the Falconets, at the just concluded Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup held in Japan, and made sure to congratulate them for their performances at the tournament which saw them finish 4th behind USA, Germany, and hosts Japan.

"The Falconets did the country proud at the U20 World Cup and I would like to congratulate them.

"I watched the team and I was impressed by some of the players I saw, which is why I have invited nine of them to join us," said Ikhana.

"Those players have already proved themselves at the U20 level and I hope they can measure up to the standards we require when they meet up with the Super Falcons."

He also stated that he is looking out for players who show "commitment, discipline, skill and the ability to play according to instructions."

Players in camp include: Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Okobi, Cecilia Nku, Ugo Njoku, Asisat Oshoala, Esther Sunday, and Gloria Ofoegbu.

Also in camp are Defenders Eberechi Maraihe, Gladys Akpa, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Ngozi Ebere, Ulumma Jerome, Joy Jegede.

Others are Chiudo Ehiudo, Stella Mbachu, Onyinyechi Ohadugha, Glory Iroka, Shola Oyewusi, Ishola Tawa, Tochukwu Oluehi, Ifeoma Emenike, Sharifat Saheed and Precious Dede.

Ugochi Oparanozie, Francisca Ordega and Osinachi Ohale are all expected to arrive at The Serob Legacy Hotel on Tuesday.

The African Women's Championship will take place in Equatorial Guinea from October 28 to November 11.

Whoever is hosting this site should try and be up to date. By this I mean the person should always also be reporting of what is happening in the other categories of female football. For example the young flamingoes were held to 1:1 draw by Canada in the current female under 17 world cup tournament in Azberjastan. It was a match the flamingoes should have won cooly after possession of 53:43%; 10:0 corner kicks, hitting the wood work four times and having 20:7 shots on goal. Good luck to the girls. Hope they collect the maximum points in their next match.
Unfortunately when it comes to battle in Africa, the other countries will roar only to go there and be quiettened. Gambia were beaten 11 zero by North Korea. What a goal feast with each player handsomely receiving one.
