We want honours Khoza tells De Sa

Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza hasn’t laid down any form of mandate for his new coach Roger de Sa

Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza insists he hasn’t laid down any form of mandate for his new coach Roger de Sa as coaching merely The Bucs is already some kind of directive about the honours that you must bring to the club.

De Sa has been handed a three year contract with reality pointing out that staying on until the last day of that agreement is no guarantee at Pirates – a club that has had a dozen coaches in as many years with De Sa the fourth in the last 18 months.

"In South Africa you don’t need to spell out the mandate because it is not in my interest but in the public and the media interest," argues Khoza.

"The mandate is there from the way we position our self as a club. The coach must give us the best. That is why in his contract there is nothing to say if you finish in number four you get this bonus and if you finish in second you get this bonus. For us it is a given. Even our players know that getting to quarter-finals or semi-finals is a given which is why we don’t even talk about bonuses for such or even finishing in top eight.

"At Pirates we don’t pay those bonuses because players know that why must we pay them bonuses when the team itself has given itself a chance to be in that position. We want honours. I know it is not easy but we must always thrive for that because the benchmark says if you are a top team that is where your aspirations must start," says Khoza.

"We gave him a three year contract and threw him in the deep end. The Pirates job is not easy but Roger has a big heart and with all the support that he has he will succeed. With the passion that he has he will be able to do it," adds Khoza.

De Sa adds that he is aware that he needs to keep the Bucs moving.

"When you are coaching a team that has been champions for two years in a row you just have to keep them going on. Like what the chairman said there is not a lot of changes that need to be done because a fantastic job has been done in the last two years. It is just a question of guiding the ship in the right direction," says De Sa.

With local coaches rarely put in charge at the big clubs Khoza adds that the appointment of De Sa should be a motivating influence.

"Well I hope it will be a motivating influence. I think it rests squarely on the shoulders of the coaches to compel us not to overlook them. Football coaching is a professional career and you have yourself to make sure that you are in demand. We want more of the local coaches to come up," says the Iron Duke.

And he has an additional mandate of breaking the record, Bucs must score 3 goals in 15 mins against Chimps this time. 3 goals in 23 mins was just good , but we can improve. UP THE BUCS!

Roger should be under no illussion that at Pirates you bring or give us the best or you jump. Pirates is not a mickey mouse club and only the top hounors is accaptable not second best. As the chairman has highlighted that no coach is guranteed to see out the whole term of his contract if the results are not forthcoming, with that being said Roger should have gotten a cristal clear clear indication that only the winners at heart and by nature will guide the ship to even greater achievements.

We wish you good luck and success in your new job coach. Pirates for life

Which brave zebra can argue with what these two visionaries have just said? Unlike Stew Baksteena's mandate which is to finish @least in the top eight, anything better Hollard will cover his extended family with a funeral cover as a bonus incentive.

De Sa will steer the free sailing ship into the promised land

The Ironduke is has spoken. He says while other teams that consider themselves big appoint foreign coaches to the hot seat, we at Pirates are developing local coaches. We already won the treble with South African players, the only team that can have a purely local starting XI and a purely local bench. Other teams cannot cope without having 5-7 Zimbabweans in their squad. Pirates is revolutionizing South African football setting records no one can break. Roger must just use this opportunity granted to him and win medals. He must be reminded that Julio Leal was fired just after he won a double for us. We don't want that Bafana Bajaiva spirit of celebrating draws and 1-0 losses. We also don't celebrate Mbombela cups, Macufe cups and Black Label cups. May I add that we don't celebrate winning games. We celebrate honors only. Getting us to a final or ending up second on the log is not good enough reason to keep you at the club. The truth and only the truth. Amen.

Lol pie city fans are very dumb! Every time this guy fires a coach they jump to his defense and say in 'khoza we believe'. Or we trust our chairman he knows wat he is doing! If he knew wat he was doing wen he appointed palacious he wouldn't have fired him only after 3 league games......

And his reason for firing his coaches are very lame at best! He has never come out and tell his team supporters the truth why he fired the coach! Palacious was fired because of poor results nothing more!
