Yobo: President's visit motivates not pressurises

Super Eagles skipper Joseph Yobo happy with visit by President Goodluck Jonathan

Posted: 6 September 2012 Time: 10:07 pm

Super Eagles skipper, Joseph Yobo, declared on Thursday that Wednesday's surprise visit by President Goodluck Jonathan, to the training session of the national team at the Abuja National Stadium, was the tonic the team needs to excel in the game against Liberia on Saturday.

Speaking on the historic occasion, Yobo, said rather than the visit putting pressure on the team, it has helped to motivate all the players, some of whom have never had the opportunity of meeting the President or any President for that matter in their entire football career.

"We are privileged to have had the rare opportunity of meeting the president and I must specially thank him for the visit and also assure him of the seriousness of the entire squad to excel in not only the qualifiers for the Nations Cup but those of the World Cup and any tournament that we will enter for."

Yobo also seized the opportunity to thank Vice President, Namadu Sambo, the Governor of his home state, Rivers and Chairman of the Governor's Forum, Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi and all those who were there when the President visited the national team at training assuring that they will have cause to celebrate the team in the coming days.

"I must say I'm very excited at the visit of top officials and the knowledge the President and his team displayed of the Super Eagles. In fact, Mr President knew almost all the players by name and that means he has been following the team closely.

"We can only reward by qualifying in style for the SA 2013 Nations Cup and doing very well at the tournament proper."

The female president of Liberia has asked her team to beat Nigeria. What do you expect of Mr President, he has no other choice than to ask the Egles to marry the Lone stars right there in Monrovia. The presidents are looking for bragging rights. That's all.

I pray the Eagles will show that they are still super. Anything less than a victory, will be a disappointment. Go Eagles Go... Slyman

Our president has done well for visiting Super Eagles camp, i will like Super Eagles to kill this match at Liberia, so that the second leg will be unnecessary.

All we need is results. Putting hope of the Super Eagles is calling for the un-expected. The super eagles should earn the heart of the Nigerian fans by doing the needful. We have our many doubts, prove yourself and you will get the heart and support of the Nigerian fans

President don't play football, whether he visit or not, if you are not doing the right things to achieve victory, you will definitely not win. From the administrators to coach, everything is wrong whether someone agree with me or not, only time will tell. I guess these days Nigeria only struggle to qualify for a tournament sake and not to win it. I prefer not going to a tournament for 4yrs, put your house in order then qualify and win it than just going to participation sake.
