Neeskens remains in charge ... for now

Johan Neeskens still in charge at Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 3 September 2012 Time: 01:41 pm

Mamaelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe will not wield the axe on beleaguered coach Johan Neeskens despite their winless streak, which stretched to four games on Sunday.

The Brazilians' 2–1 defeat at the hands of Maritzburg United in a League match agitated fans of the Chloorkop-based team, who are now calling for the head of the Dutch coach.

Some vocal fans have gone as far as calling upon Motsepe to replace Neeskens with former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.

However, Speaking to KickOff.com, Mamelodi Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito reveals that Neeskens will still be calling the shots when the club faces Golden Arrows during their next League match on September 15.

"He [Neeskens] remains the coach of the club," Mosito says.

"There will be no changes and the coach has the support of the management. Any speculations that the coach is going to be changed are baseless.

"This is the official position of the club," adds Mosito.

Neeskens – who before the start of the season said he would hand in his resignation if the team fails to win any silverware this season – is eager to end a barren spell that has seen Sundowns going for five years without winning any major competition.

Neeskens is the first Sundowns coach during Motsepe's era to stay at the helm despite going for a season without winning any silverware.

I commend the gay president, Miss Motsepe for coming out of the closet by telling what his intensions are. Now Downs fans know where to fight Neeskens & his president.

I wish Khoza can do the same today, since some of us are already itching to go to the training grounds in our famous kombi.

Why blame the coach when more than half of the players in the team are just playing for the money....There is no team spirit in this team, Teko Modise is always fighting a lone battle....Sundowns if full of players who don't care about winning...they don't play for the badge......The players attitude is the problem....most of the players are Chiefs and Pirates diehard supporters.

Lonmin Sundowns FC is going nowhere fast....

The drunken master has lost the plot, you don't shift blame when underpressure unless clueless. In the past he tended to blame Pelembe for Downs' shortcomings which he did yesterday.

Leave Trot & Makhanya alone, they are doing a splendid job. They signed all the players you wanted, ensured that you win the Swaziland league, drove you to SD after an accident which cost Sywets his job, etc...
