Gordon Igesund explains his new selections for Bafana Bafana

Posted: 30 August 2012 Time: 02:15 pm

Gordon Igesund talks about the Bafana Bafana new-boys he picked for the squad to play Brazil.

Igesund has called up seven new players – Kamohelo Mokotjo, Kgosietsile Ntlhe, Katlego Mashego, Thabo Matlaba, Dean Furman, Dino Ndlovu and Thamsanqa Gabuza.

Moroka Swallows' winger Lerato Chabangu gets a first call-up since 2008.

The Bafana coach says he has chosen some of the younger players to get a good look at them in national colours, and promises that a couple of his selections will "surprise" fans on the pitch.

Dean Furman (Oldham Athletic, England)

"I've spoken to his coach, [he's] very, very impressed, they don't think Dean Furman's going to play in that team much longer, there are quite a few clubs after him.

"The performance I've seen in the past couple of games I think he deserves an opportunity. I think it's very important that we get a chance to get a look at a player like him to see what he's capable of.

"Very useful player, holding midfield player, uses the ball well, gets forward."

Kamohelo Mokotjo (Feyenoord, Holland)

"Plays at Feyenoord, as you know, he's a fantastic player. He plays as a holding midfielder, his club are playing him as a right-back. He's doing tremendously well over there. He's young, he's the future, I think we need to have a look at him as well.

"He's playing at the highest level of European football, you don't play at giants Feyenoord if you're not a decent player, he's getting good game-time."

Dino Ndlovu (Maccabi Haifa, Israel)

"I think a lot of people are going to be very, very surprised about Dino Ndlovu. He's absolutely playing tremendously well at the moment. He's really going to surprise a lot of people. He's strong, he's powerful, great skill, great left foot, scoring lots of goals at the moment."

Kgosi Ntlhe (Peterborough, England)

"As you all know he played for our Under-20 team, did a magnificent job. I spoke to [club coach] Darren Ferguson and he said to me 'this player will never let you down, coach'. He says the English Championship is one of the most physical leagues in world football, he says it's a hundred miles an hour, which we know. He says this player is just about his best player at the moment, at the back, paying left-back. He goes forward, he's very strong. This guy needs to be looked at. He's 18 years old and playing in the English Championship. He deserves to be there because of his performances in the last few games, he's a regular starter in the team."

Thamsanqa Gabuza (Golden Arrows)

"Not only have I noticed him now but I actually noticed him last season He's a young player, physical player, skilful, he can play with his back to goals, he scores goals, he's movement is very, very good, he's going to cause problems for defenders. Sometimes there's too many players that go unnoticed because they don't play for this team or don't play for that team. We need to look at the players that are performing and this player has performed. He's a player that is going to surprise a lot of people."

Ai...Gordon is starting to be like a used condom now. He is talking too much. You must ask VV what happens when a coach likes media, dude.

So you rats fans want Gorden to include cows who failed to score a single goal for 270 minutes!
Your Jali is a cow. If you look at Khanyisa's goal in the mtn8, the midget wasn't supposed to go and try to taggle Kanyesa. Again the Khanysa's second attemp which hit the pole, the midget did the same thing trying to rough taggle Zuma but he failed.

Last season Kaizer Chiefs 2 Orlando Pielerete1, the midget tried to use his anti-football action and guess what,Majoro took the ball and passed it to JD who gave it to Shaba to scroe Khosis second goal. That midget is useless. Finish and klaar.

Why don't you question the inclusion of Thabo Matlala??

To me the squad is fine and i will support it to the last. Football supporters must learn that everybody has his/ her own choices but Gordon has the final say. Please people support this Coach and stop crying everyday. Jali, Modise etc are known players and Bafana Bafana material but the coach wants to build a pool of players to choose at. I am a pirate supporter but i am happy with this squad of Gordon.

Good squard Gorden. Your selection is not based on favouritism. Don't be intimidated by AK47s and nail clippers and pistols with erased serial number.

Gordon and your boys, never mind abt the critics, they are always there. They condemn these boys even b4 they see them in the field of play under your leadership. I think they do not know football at all. Guys lets wait and see how our boys are playing then we can comment, for now they us rally behind them, they need our support, let us not act like fools. Sorry if that hurts but its a fact.

Go Bafana Go and make us proud,

Bernard Parker (Kaizer Chiefs)

"Ya look he has finished his goals quota for the season, and I wanted someone who will help us eat the food and drink the free drinks... so I picked Bernard because I know he will be useless for the remainder of the season for both club and country, I could have called Majoro but he wanted to bring the ballz he stole from VV, and that would have forced me to call Mahamutsa to kick those ballz... and in the end I took Bernard"

I have a suspicious feeling most of these players will flop. And it's very worrying that u pick someone based on coach's perspective. i mean the english 3rd tier league is not even on dstv hence i wonder where did u see furman playing consistently enough to make a judgement.

Even more worrying is de fact that u seem to rate de overseas players higher than sa, even when they play for lower divisions.

having said all that, i will take a wait and see attitude and give you ample time to see what you got for us. u have my full support coach...
