Expect a more determined Chelsea says Obi

John Mikel Obi says Chelsea are unhappy with poor League finish

Posted: 17 August 2012 Time: 02:43 pm

Chelsea finished last season in sixth position and Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi has revealed that the lowly finish still annoys the players.

Though Chelsea finished the season by winning the Uefa Champions League and FA Cup, Obi is adamant that the League will witness a more determined Chelsea this new season.

"It hurts us that it was such a big gap last season. We spoke about it. We don't want that to repeat itself," Obi told the London Evening Standard.

"We don't want a repeat of last season when we slipped out of the top four but, for us, the top four is not the target.

"The most important thing is to win the trophy. We want to regain the trophy."

Obi also said the players would not be affected by their fourth consecutive loss – the Charity Shield loss to Manchester City last Sunday.

"We're on the right track and if we keep doing what we're doing now, we'll be fine this season.

"It's going to be a long season. It's going to be too many games. It's about how you cope with it, how you manage the players and how you get through the games."

"We want to defend the Champions League, we want to win the Premier League and, hopefully, we want to challenge for every cup," Obi concluded.

Reality makes me soo sad and desperate. We africans are so brainwashed i dont see how will make it in the nearest future..

The majority of the people in this forum doesnt believe in our homebased players at all. why is that so? I dont know.. What Keshi is doin could cost him his job. This is what always happens to our people who believe in us and can maybe archieve something for us. Remember Amodu!! Can You people image how much confidence Keshi has given young boys in Nigeria? Now they know someone believe in them and that can really be called to the Super Eagles.

The things is that we need a team and not a bunch of superstars. In the past our so called eurobased players(not all) didnt really played for Nigeria the way that they should. So what did we have to lose if we give some new boys a chance...

Have you guys forgotten that in Nija there are super talented players somewhere? Keshi is doin a really good Job. Just wait and see.

By the way whats your problem... he is just mixing home/europe based players. Is not that he is using only homebased.

And now to Siassia fans: Me myself was a huge fan of Siassia. But when he had the headcoach post he failed totaly. He made some funny mistakes.. I couldnt believe it myself. Siassia wanted to play football with 10 strikers and on keeper. Plus he took Argentina friendlies more important than anything else which was wrong!!

@blackpanther187 ,leave all those ur story no one is crucifying or condescending on him for using homebase eagles but all what we are saying he should get 5 or 6 home lad mixed them up with our best pro eagles if you can remember algiers90s himself and some pro eagles boycotted from that tournament Mr westerhof was left no choice than to use only homebase eagles only Emmanuel okocha was the only pro eagles at that time what happen after then westerhof disbanded the team and pick only 4 players rashidi yekini, Friday ekpo, elahor, alo agu and started building them up with the pro eagles we all saw how fruitful it was,,

he keep deceiving you guys with all dis rebuilding noise playing low-key matches getting a draw losing some and you guys still sit on a cheering mode 4 him
going through all your comment concerning keshi
it look to me you have a good up date of him tell me which player he has discover neither he has a complete team every matches has new faces and new names mind you
Nigeria has a name to protect in terms of football either we are falling or raising the fact is football is part of our culture life has is own negative and positive effect in life but football is the positive impact of our life the NAME NIGERIA IS TOO BIG IN-TERMS OF FOOTBALL FOR SOMEONE TO BE TOURING WITH
HE BUILD A TEAM AND STOP REBUILDING TEAMS

@blackpanther. I have some questions for you. What will you say if the foreign players keshi invites for Liberia qualifier fail to click and gel next month? Will you blame them or say they didn't want to play well? Are really right in condemning osaze and co for not clicking in that qualifier in Rwanda in February (or march ) earlier this year. These guys are no computers. they need to blend with the home based players he is raising in a non pressured friendly match. That is where keshi is missing it.
The time to test and make these professionals blend with the talented home based was in this non pressure Niger friendly.
Please, advise keshi to plan wisely instead of relying on emergency all night prayers and TB Joshua prophecies to help Nigeria qualify.
With what keshi is doing, do you think his eagles can face Russia and go away with a draw like CIV did?
Nigeria may ot have superstars in Europe but we have players that make a strong team if used well.
You all saw what Mexico did to brazil in London Olympics

@ehisbaba:

You dont just get the point. Keshi wants a team and not a bunch of superstars. What he is doing will be good for the future. Dont you get it we didnt qualify for the last NationsCup. We have to start from the scratch again. And why cant you see any progress? To play against a, at the moment a strong side like Niger 0 -0 isnt a bad result. This is good.

This are the facts: If Keshi wants to prepare with a system than he should focus on players who are allways there. In the past it was allways hard to get all foreign players together for a long time!! What keshi is doin makes sense, cause if he has a group of homebased players that function together, because they are used to eachother, and mix them with also commited players(Yobo,I.Uche....) we will have our TEAM!!

Another thing you guys dont get is that we have tooo many strikers. Ideye Ideye.. Emenike..Emenike.. Moses... too many. what we need are young new defenders and middlefield players.

Can anyone name me some top defenders and middlefield players?
- Ayila Yusuf(perfect but No 2014 Material),
- Taiwo(perfect),
- Elderson(perfect),
- Apam(perfect),
- Yobo(perfect but No 2014 Material),
- Lukeman(benchwarmer),
- Joel Obi(perfect),
- Efe Ambrose( perfect but not top),
- Fengor Ogude (perfect but not top),
- Ethuhu (perfect but No 2014 Material),
- Sani Kaita (no club), Adeyele (perfect but his club....),
- Odibe(perfect but his club...),
- Nwankwo Obiora(perfect but Seria B)
- Nedum Onouha( doesnt want to play for us??)
- Mikel Obi( PERFECT PERFECT but you all knew that in the past he acted funny.. towards Nija. but keshi said he is in good contact with him.. lets hope for the best)

approx. 9 - 10 defenders and middlefield players we can plan with. And not all off them are top material. This is too risky!!! We need to dig deeper in Nija there are many talents there waiting there trust me.

Do you guys get the full picture now? We Have a problem Stop talkin about Strikers Strikers Strikers......

Black panther 187, this is the same problem that has made our Eagles struggle under Keshi. That is not taking your time to identify the players and using them in their best positions. Victor Moses is a winger. He plays outside right or left, yet scored 6 in 34 games for Wigan. John Utaka is a winger also who scored 7 goals in 35 games last season for his French team. Keshi used these 2 as our top strikers in a 4-4-2 formation. As you can see by their records for their clubs they don't score often, so stop using them where they can't function. Ideye on the other hand is a top striker, a true number 9 like Yekini. He can shoot with both legs and scores a lot with his head too. But keshi did NOT invite one single top striker from Europe for the games. Ike Uche is a support striker who needs to play with a top striker to bring out the best in him.

Keshi should look at his team, see where he has weaknesses and invite the best Nigerians who play in that position where ever the may be. This is the main Reason the Eagles could not convert many chances created in the June qualifiers.
