Though Chelsea finished the season by winning the Uefa Champions League and FA Cup, Obi is adamant that the League will witness a more determined Chelsea this new season.
"It hurts us that it was such a big gap last season. We spoke about it. We don't want that to repeat itself," Obi told the London Evening Standard.
"We don't want a repeat of last season when we slipped out of the top four but, for us, the top four is not the target.
"The most important thing is to win the trophy. We want to regain the trophy."
Obi also said the players would not be affected by their fourth consecutive loss – the Charity Shield loss to Manchester City last Sunday.
"We're on the right track and if we keep doing what we're doing now, we'll be fine this season.
"It's going to be a long season. It's going to be too many games. It's about how you cope with it, how you manage the players and how you get through the games."
"We want to defend the Champions League, we want to win the Premier League and, hopefully, we want to challenge for every cup," Obi concluded.

Your comments on this story...
The majority of the people in this forum doesnt believe in our homebased players at all. why is that so? I dont know.. What Keshi is doin could cost him his job. This is what always happens to our people who believe in us and can maybe archieve something for us. Remember Amodu!! Can You people image how much confidence Keshi has given young boys in Nigeria? Now they know someone believe in them and that can really be called to the Super Eagles.
The things is that we need a team and not a bunch of superstars. In the past our so called eurobased players(not all) didnt really played for Nigeria the way that they should. So what did we have to lose if we give some new boys a chance...
Have you guys forgotten that in Nija there are super talented players somewhere? Keshi is doin a really good Job. Just wait and see.
By the way whats your problem... he is just mixing home/europe based players. Is not that he is using only homebased.
dis dudu is funny
score goals dis season and leave all dis story alone
@blackpanther187 ,leave all those ur story no one is crucifying or condescending on him for using homebase eagles but all what we are saying he should get 5 or 6 home lad mixed them up with our best pro eagles if you can remember algiers90s himself and some pro eagles boycotted from that tournament Mr westerhof was left no choice than to use only homebase eagles only Emmanuel okocha was the only pro eagles at that time what happen after then westerhof disbanded the team and pick only 4 players rashidi yekini, Friday ekpo, elahor, alo agu and started building them up with the pro eagles we all saw how fruitful it was,,
he keep deceiving you guys with all dis rebuilding noise playing low-key matches getting a draw losing some and you guys still sit on a cheering mode 4 him
going through all your comment concerning keshi
it look to me you have a good up date of him tell me which player he has discover neither he has a complete team every matches has new faces and new names mind you
Nigeria has a name to protect in terms of football either we are falling or raising the fact is football is part of our culture life has is own negative and positive effect in life but football is the positive impact of our life the NAME NIGERIA IS TOO BIG IN-TERMS OF FOOTBALL FOR SOMEONE TO BE TOURING WITH
HE BUILD A TEAM AND STOP REBUILDING TEAMS
The time to test and make these professionals blend with the talented home based was in this non pressure Niger friendly.
Please, advise keshi to plan wisely instead of relying on emergency all night prayers and TB Joshua prophecies to help Nigeria qualify.
With what keshi is doing, do you think his eagles can face Russia and go away with a draw like CIV did?
Nigeria may ot have superstars in Europe but we have players that make a strong team if used well.
You all saw what Mexico did to brazil in London Olympics
You dont just get the point. Keshi wants a team and not a bunch of superstars. What he is doing will be good for the future. Dont you get it we didnt qualify for the last NationsCup. We have to start from the scratch again. And why cant you see any progress? To play against a, at the moment a strong side like Niger 0 -0 isnt a bad result. This is good.
This are the facts: If Keshi wants to prepare with a system than he should focus on players who are allways there. In the past it was allways hard to get all foreign players together for a long time!! What keshi is doin makes sense, cause if he has a group of homebased players that function together, because they are used to eachother, and mix them with also commited players(Yobo,I.Uche....) we will have our TEAM!!
Another thing you guys dont get is that we have tooo many strikers. Ideye Ideye.. Emenike..Emenike.. Moses... too many. what we need are young new defenders and middlefield players.
Can anyone name me some top defenders and middlefield players?

Do you guys get the full picture now? We Have a problem Stop talkin about Strikers Strikers Strikers......
ABI U NO NO!
Keshi should look at his team, see where he has weaknesses and invite the best Nigerians who play in that position where ever the may be. This is the main Reason the Eagles could not convert many chances created in the June qualifiers.
