The Blues Finished 6th last season, after their title hopes were compromised by a poor start under manager Andres Villas-Boas.
Lampard says that cannot be allowed to happen again. "Every season, you have to get off the blocks right away. If you lose ground early on, like we did last year then it's gone," the midfielder told KickOffNigeria.com.
The new season kicks-off on this weekend, with Chelsea away to Wigan, and the 34-year-old admits that it has become even harder to win the Premier League title with so many teams wielding heft financial muscle.
"Every year the competition just gets harder. You see teams out there that have lots of money to buy players. Man City more than anyone. Man United are always strong, so we have to make a good start."
Winning the Champions League meant the club did not have to suffer the consequences of their poor league finish and will return to Europe's premier club competition this season, but Lampard says nothing can be taken for granted.
"We had a great run in the Champions League, but you can't take anything for granted."
