Nigeria's Super Eagles were on Wednesday held to a 0-0 draw by Niger Republic

Nigeria's Super Eagles were on Wednesday held to a 0-0 draw by Niger Republic in an international friendly that both sides are using to prepare for the upcoming Nations Cup qualifiers in September.

The entertaining encounter played at the 50,000 capacity Stade General Seyni Kountche in Niamey, which was half-filled saw both sides give their best with Nigeria having the edge in a match that saw three yellow cards to the visitors and one to the hosts.

The culprits were Solomon Kwambe, Solomon Jabason and Sanni Sanusi. While Niger hitman Kalilou Dawodu was also booked for rough play.

Niger started the better side when after only five minutes Boubacar Talatou tried to chip the ball past goalkeeper and skipper, Chigozie Agbim.

The Warri Wolves man slipped, picked himself up and went for the save, which resulted in him hitting his shoulder against the woodwork.

The Nigerian bench looked worried but after the medics attended to him he was back to his feet but needed additional attention after the game. Isoufou Boubacar, Sidibe Modibo and Mohammed Soumaila, also had their tries at the Nigerian goal area in the first quarter but Azubuike Eguweke, Papa Idis and Juwon Oshaniwa held on strong. Egwueke gave his bench another scare in the 20th minute when he was stretchered off after hitting the ground while attempting a clearance, but he was again back after treatment.

From then on it was Nigeria all the way with Uche Kalu's freee kick blocked by Nigerien defenders in the 21st minute for one of the nine corner kicks played by the Eagles. Menas had five on the evening.

Kalu had other chances in the 27th and 35th minute but they were all wasted, before Ejike Uzoenyi's blistering run from the right fell to Mba who also blasted wide.

In the second half, stand in coach for Niger, Frederic Acosta made six changes in the first 20 minutes of the half but nothing changed as Nigeria continue to dictate the pace of the game but not before Agbim was again called to duty by danger man, Kalilou Dawouda, whose chip was going into the net before the big Nigerian palmed clear for a corner.

Keshi also made changes bringing in Umar Zango for a tired Idris, Kwambe was pulled out for Ugonna, Philip Asuquo for Sunday Mba, Sibi Gwar for Ejike Uzoenyi and Sanni Sanusi for Uche Kalu. As usual, Asuquo seized the midfield from the host but chances that fell to Sani, Reuben and Gwar were wasted as the referee blew the final whistle after five minutes of extra time for the home side to heave a sigh of relief.

Keshi said after the match that it was a game his wards would have won but nevertheless he was impressed by the attitude of the players who kept their concentration to the optimum throughout the encounter. “It's a good warm up for the Liberia game and we should pick a good result in the encounter, because we did not play with the compliments of our Europe based stars.”

Niger on the other hand featured up to eight foreign based professional players in the encounter.

My felow fans, can somebody give us a detail account of how d match was played. From the reporter, it seem as if it was only our keeper who was tested, was their keeper not tried, does mean it our attackers were domant all through d game. Abov all we should know dat atleast our home based lads can stil stand national team A despite the draw.

Keshi should keep on at his show of shame game. He keeps playing draws and slim margin victories, when he promises a win, we get a draw, when he promises a white wash, we barely get 2 goals.. Okay oh, a team just last yeah was scoring with reckless abandon.
even if he qualifies us for Afcon, 1st round is as far s we would go, with 2 draws and 1 loss.. Then sia1 would be vindicated on why he never risked the super eagles to the feet of homebased players.

I dn't like all these Keshi-home based players romance. We should by now b featurin our full team in friedlies. Ok against Liberia he'l invite d Europe based guys & d team will b strugglin 4 cohesion.Brazil,Argentina, Germany, Ivory Coast etc played grade A friendlies same day with close 2 their best squads. What ar our Europe based players doin presently? Where ar they? They didn't play Euro 2012 nor Olympic & dey ar restin 4 what? Come d day we'l play Liberia we'l start cing lack of form & rustiness. How I wish a friendly can b organised btw those lazy foreign-based & NPL players so d foreign-based can b disgraced. MY line up 4 Liberia: Enyeama, Taiwo, Yobo, Ambrose, Obaebuna(nt sure of spellin), Mikel, Joel Obi, Moses, Uzoenyi, Anichebe, Ike Uche. Subs: Austine Ejide, Kalu Uche(d spain based), Ahmed Musa, Victor Obinna, Gabriel Reuben, Nwankwo Obiorah, Chinedu Ogbuike & 2 other home based defenders. The home based strikers ar below our SE standards.

i have said it before this man is not a coach,he is just business minded,he only interested in selling player to make money that is all he want, and putting out happiness at stake, just imagine Niger holding Super Eagles draw, they would have even win the game.

Foget about Nigeria foot ball we are going down every day by day, just take a look at Ghana they are improving every day even other countries, we have not play Ghana even draw at this time, that is to show you how har we have gone in distroying our game, we need a foreign Coach sunday olise that is all we need, we can no longer have fun with our Super Eagle because of bad administrators

Does Keshi realise we have less than six months to AFCON 2013 in SA? One would think by now we have a standing team. What we have is a bunch of players still struggling to score goals. After qualifying for AFCON, players will only have less than two weeks to blend to make impact at the tournament. This is why countries like Ghana use their full team to play friendlies. I have said it before and will keep saying it, it seems Keshi is only keen on selling these home based players. If not he should explain to us why our best players are not being used for friendlies.

I just hope Keshi knows what he is doing, cos he needs to realise that there might be no other chance.

this home base thing is beginning to get everyone worrying.atleast keshi should have invited a handful of professionals especially the new ones to see how they fit into his plans for the coming qualifiers.a host of this homebased wont feature against liberia is not understandable what he stands to achieve here.that aside the homelad philip asuquo seems to hold sway in midfield.i have followed up his performances from shooting stars the team he plays for.he siezes initials in midfield and will follow suit in d footsteps of his tribeman friday ekpo.i hope he keeps the momentum going discoveries like this is essential to developing grey areas in the team.i wish keshi and his crew success i wont entirely fault his actions or decisions he know well enough what is at stake and what he needs to do to bring remarkable achievements to the team.

This is really funny. This is the time to form cohesion with the foreign and homebased yet keshi did not invite any of them. For the main qualifiers, he will invite them and if they can't perform, we start blaming them.
Keshi, it takes playing and training together for players to click well and give results. No one should blame any foreign based who is unable to perform because this keshi is obviously acting out of line.

You guys are just giving yourselves undeserved headache . Keshi is just 'trading' , replica of an average ' proper amala and ewedu' seller. At Spanish economic crises, the 'la roja' gave it's citizens something to cheer about ( at least for consolation) , my question is ; in Nigeria's political degeneration , what has our once beloved team given to the masses ?. Rebuilding i guess. Abeg when una finish the rebuilding, my village needs to get its old bridge rebuilt.

Using all home based players in barely a month before a qualifier is foolish in my opinion. We are not preparing for CHAN (where only players based on african continent are required) but we are preparing for african nations cup which fields the best from african continent regardless of where they play That touheir football. That tournament is actually barely 5 months away but Keshi is busy experimenting with home based in the name of rebuilding when he ought to be blending together the plays he wishes to call for the nations cup proper if we qualify.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, who said that Siasia1 is not our best coach? Can you proof to me one thing keshi has done to change Nigerian football? I told u guys that keshi is a trader not coach. We sack Siasia and sack good football in Nigeria because of impatient. Siasia parade the best squad in Nigeria and bring indiscipline but we refused. For me there no body than Siasia weather foreign or local coach, its better we beg Siasia to come back to start where he stopped! If not we are in Limbo. I have said it time without number that Keshi is a flop. He is a bribe taker, he trade players, that his down fall in Togo with Emmanuel Adeboye, today go and see Adebayo and check his colleague who keshi used. I cannever buy Keshi with one naira as coach please. Nkata Offor 1 of Igbo Land, Speaks.

@Anonymous (10.54 post), it's good as you are remaining anonymous- by still referring to Kalu Uche as a Spain based player, you give us the impression that you are not keeping up with recent developments in the game. And are trying to ridicule Keshi. So, isn't it a case of pot calling kettle black? lol. Last time I checked, Kalu Uche was a player of Kasimpasa SK in Turkey.
