Nigeria's Under-20 team have advanced to the third qualifying round of the African Youth Championship

Nigeria's Under-20 team, the 'Flying Eagles' have advanced to the third qualifying round of the African Youth Championship, after defeating their Tanzanian counterparts by 2-0 in Ilorin, to record a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Abduljeleel Ajagun opened scoring for Nigeria in the 14th minute, through a well taken shot inside the 18-yard box of the visitors. The hosts continued to mount more pressure and it seemed to have paid off when Sharks forward Bright Ejike headed into the Tanzanian goal in the 21st minute, only to have the goal disallowed by the referee.

Nigeria however took a comfortable lead when Enugu Rangers striker, Alhaji Gero stepped up to convert a second half penalty in the 65th minute, to seal the victory, and complete a 4-1 aggregate win in favour of Nigeria.

Nigeria who had earlier defeated the Tanzanians by 2-1 in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago in the first leg of the qualifiers will now face South Africa's 'Amajita' on September 22 in South Africa, with the return leg scheduled to be played two weeks later.

Bright Ejike under 20 ke? or is it Ajagun? Obuh is very lazy and is using overaged players.

I saw the game live at the Ilorin Township Stadium and I must confess that the eagles were unimpressive. The Tanzanians played better by far football and if they had played against a 'truly' under 21 side, the would have had the day. The Nigerian team was largely uncoordinated and couldn't make consistent flair passes. The major culprit was Alhaji Gero in front; the guy is big, strong and energetic but lacks technique. He seem to me like a player who could play 40 games in a season with only two goals to show, more like Bath Ogbeche. The outstanding player in the Nigerian side was expectedly Abduljeleel Ajagun, others were clearly below average. One positive though was the massive turnout at the stadium, fans had tickets and still couldn't gain entry. Methinks this team will not defend its title at the AYC. Suffice to add that the Nigerian team was (is) clearly overaged...you can't doubt it. Under 21? The guys I saw yesterday? Please...

You can imagine, Coach of Sharks and also coach of Flying Eagles, what time does he have to comb the country for budding talents. He wants to win dubiously and ruin the future of SE. What a shame. NFF should put a decree that no coach should hold double positions. No national team coach should hold dual positions. He is greedy, collecting money from Sharks and also from NFF.

Obuh, A disgrace to youth development. Instead of him to sit up, look for hard working stars and hopefully retain the U-20 job for up to six years. He is short sighted, now now now syndrome is killing him.

Pls guys what are u saying? We win u complain,we lose u complain. Are u their parents 2 claim they are over aged?Look @ d other person sayin Tanzanians played better, are u sure u watched d game? D coach in my opinion should use d best players who ar in dat age bracket. After dat disastrous outing in d 8-nations tourney recently d coach havin little time was forced 2 call some of his former U20 lads who still fall within d age bracket.I expect him 2 also call Kayode, Azeez, Omeruah, Okoro, Mohammed, & co against SA.We need to win dat tie by all means.

@anonymous, I think he should also invite Joel Obi, Ahmed Musa, Stanley Okoro et al. The point is, if Obuh knew he had limited time with which to work, why did he take up the job in the first place? Also, yes, I wacthed the game live! I was at the stadium. If that team plays against S.A and Ghana same way with same players, we will be courting disaster. No bad feelings against Obuh, just my honest observations.

@ Kingsegun are u sayin Obuh or any other coach shouldn't have taken d job ? So dat d U20 team won't have a coach? Stanley Okoro dat u jst mentioned is 19yrs old (he passed MRI 3yrs ago & was 16 durin Nig 2009),if he's in form I c no reason y he shouldn't b invited. As par d standard of play of d Flying Eagles i guess u jst finished watchin d community shield b4 u watched d Flying Eagles game. These ar d U20s u dn't expect dem 2 play like Barcelona, Man City or Super Eagles. Bsides have u seen d Ghanaian & RSA teams play b4 belittling d Flying Eagles b4 them? It is still early days d team can only get better. Bsides d foreign based lads were excused frm dat return leg in Ilorin. Think +ve my brother.I C dis team doin us proud.

i think nigerians can never see anything good in their system even when they are excelling its worrying.we won convincinly the same alhaji gero scored 3 goals in two matches i wonder what they expect from a hurriedly assembled team.this team shall get better before its next match.obuh is doing a fantastic job.the boys are within the age limit and are satified to represent us.lets stop this overage chants!we are not the parents of this players and nfa is trying hard to curb cheating obuh can only use players based on what age on their passport pls u guys should stop blaming him and rather blame the government for its system which encourages age cheat.but hopefully with the efforts of the football authorities it will b a thing of the past
