It was a full house at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu as the management of Rangers Int'l FC threw the gates open to the fans who came in large numbers to watch their team defeat Sunshine Stars of Akure by three unreplied goals.
Chinedu Sunday opened scoring for Rangers in the first-half, and despite a dominant display by the home team, the scores remained the same by the interval.
Upon resumption of the second half, Rangers continued to pile pressure on the defence of Sunshine and it yielded an instant result as Ifeanyi Edeh found the back of the net just two minutes into the resumption of the second half.
Chikeluba Ofoedu came close to increasing the tally for the home side on several occasions. He had a direct free kick parried away to a corner in the 51st minute, and his second attempt from a direct free-kick in the 57th minute was a bit too wide.
Rangers continued to torment the Sunshine defence with Ofoedu heading wide in the 65th minute and Efe Yaghere's hesitation in front of goal enabling Sunshine keep the home side at bay.
Rangers finally got their all important third goal when Ofoedu kept his composure to score from the spot, after he was brought down inside the 18-yard box of Sunshine Stars in the 81st.
Worthy of mention is the massive vocal support the home side enjoyed from their fans who applauded and cheered at their every move.
With just two games left to wrap up the season, this win has not only ensured Rangers climb back to the top of the league, but will also boost their aspiration of ending their trophy drought that has spanned for almost three decades.
