Yakubu Ayegbeni continued his rich scoring form for Guanzhou R&F, but his strike proved inadequate to secure victory.
The Nigerian opened the scoring in Guanzhou's Chinese Super League game against visiting Tianjn Teda, but the hosts failed to consolidate on the strike.
Cao Yang drew the visitors level 14 minutes after Yak's goal and Dutch player Sjoerd Ars scored what proved to be the winner just before half-time.
The loss keeps Guangzhou R&F in 5th place with 29 points from 19 matches placing 5th in the 16-team league.
Neighbours Guangzhou Evergrande lead the log with 40 points from 20 matches.
