Mathebula ruled out for Swallows

David Mathebula ruled out for Moroka Swallows MTN8 match

Posted: 3 August 2012 Time: 02:04 pm

Moroka Swallows have suffered a major blow ahead of their MTN8 match against AmaZulu on Sunday, after David Mathebula was ruled out with a knee injury.

Mathebula was one of the stand-out players for Swallows' last season, winning the KICK OFF Footballer of the Season award, and his absence will be lamented by the Dube Birds' fans.

Also ruled out is Luvhengo Mungomeni, who is suspended after receiving a red card against Platinum Stars at the end of last season.

Despite Mathebula and Mungomeni's absence, Zeca Marques says he will field a strong team against Usuthu at Dobsonville Stadium.

"Mathebula's injury is not serious, and he should be back in a week or so," the coach says. "We don't want to rush him and take chances as we still have a long season to play.

"But everybody is upbeat for the game against AmaZulu and we will come with a very strong team on Sunday."

Swallows have a good squad I'm not sure about their coach though I still think they should have gone for Krol, it will be sad to see Igesund's hardwork going down the drain we need competition

Mngobeni's unavailability will be conspicous, I am going to the stadium to watch my beloved team play, however, I know for the fact that we not gonna make it to the next round. I do not want to sound pessimistic but its a fact. Marked my word more than three goals will go pass Greg Etafia on sunday not becouse of his inability to stop them but becouse there is NO DEFENCE to protect him. Same excuse from the coach on the postmatch interview: "We miss Mngobeni and Mathebula, we created chances but we didnt convert them and we got punished, We need more time to gel as team" SHAME ON YOU "BALL BOY"
