Josephs recommits himself to Bafana Bafana

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs recommits himself to Bafana Bafana

Posted: 3 August 2012 Time: 12:24 pm

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs is once again available for national team selection, following a meeting with new Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund yesterday.

Don't miss

Josephs stunned the football fraternity shortly before South Africa's 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in June, when he announced his retirement from the national team set-up, citing family commitments.

At the time Benni McCarthy speculated that the reason was the inaccessible number-one jersey, saying: "You do everything possible to fight for the number-one spot, but you know yourself you are never going to get the number one, because it's fairly clear it's Itumeleng Khune."

But after meeting with Igesund, the 'Slimkat' says he had reconsidered his decision.

"I went to see Moeneeb Josephs regarding his Bafana Bafana future and to discuss his retirement from international football, which I thought was premature," Igesund says.

"I didn't go there to beg him to play for the national team, but to hear the reasons for his early retirement at the peak of his career.

"He opened up to me and told me the reasons for his decision. I believe the issues are personal and it would be unfair for me to discuss them publicly. Josephs feels he still has a lot to offer and would love to be considered for selection into the Bafana Bafana squad again.

"He also acknowledged that he has to work as hard as all the other players to earn a national team call-up as there are many good goalkeepers in the country. He assured me he would fight for his place in the squad," Igesund says.

It's time to do things deferently now, I pity those who thought that they own places in the national team.

Well done coach. That's how a national coach has to conduct his business. I still think Itu is more talented but that should not be the only criteria for selection. Same goes for some of my players at Naturena. Most of them didn't deserve a spot in the team. Khosi4Life

This boy cannot stick to his decision, He is gullible. He said he was no longer interested in playing for the national team and he has suddenly changed his decision. Josephs does not have passion for this country but for his team only and to me that is not wrong. Anyway welcome to BB.

I suppose he has also been promised that he will be no.1
The new national selectors for Bafana are Benni & Josephs. So since they have selected themselves already who else are they choosing?

It does not reflect good on Pitso. He mistake was favouritism rather than performance. Sticking to Khune, Mphela, Khuboni, Khumalo, Modise and others even when their form was in dismal state, finally brought in his misfortune. Not playing Jali, Manyisa and some boys who know the value of winning was a disgrace. You see, if someone wins all cups on offer, year after year, and still prefer someone who fails year after year, calls for your judment and integrity in life.... Well, the less said of Pitso the better. Mr Josephs, you are welcome to the Bafana fold. Continue to work hard. And you shall be rewarded.

Did you talk to all the players who were in the national team already you're showing favouritism, how is Khune and other goal keepers are going to feel. So now Nasal Crusher (Benni) and Domkat place are guaranteed. Thank you Gordon gook luck, you were right to say the door is still open for him in the national team but to ask him to come back thats very low he did it on his free will.
