The Chilli Boys won promotion from the First Division in 2011/12 on the back of an impressive record at their ‘fortress’ but, after inspection, the PSL decided the venue was not up to scratch.
“The stadium added so much advantage for us, but unfortunately there are certain standards we won’t able to reach,” team manager Wondisile Mbenguzana tells KickOff.com.
“However, in three months’ time we’ll be able to apply again once those issues have been sorted out, like the grass for instance.
“Obviously the season ended quite late for u so we have not had much time to work on the pitch. Also, there are safety issues which we need to address.”
Chippa will now have to play their home games at Athlone Stadium, while matches against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be shifted to the Cape Town Stadium.
