'You need physical and mental strength at Sundowns'

Santos captain Tyren Arendse's advice to Wayne Arendse and Eleazar Rodgers at Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 31 July 2012 Time: 04:06 pm

Santos captain Tyren Arendse, who played previously for Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, says his former teammates Wayne Arendse and Eleazar Rodgers will live up to fans' expectations at Sundowns.

Both Wayne Arendse and Rodgers have left the relegated People's Team to join the Brazilians for the new season.

Tyren Arendse says the duo will have to learn to handle pressure from supporters.

"There are a lot of expectations from the club and the Sundowns fans as well. As a player you know that the most important thing for them is to make sure that they are physically and mentally strong," Arendse says.

"Sundowns have a lot of quality players, but with their ability I know both Wayne and Eleazar will able to fight for their positions.

"I think they knew what they wanted and this is an opportunity for them to further their career, and it's important that you experience things for yourself."

Tyren Arendse says he did not talk to Wayne Arendse before he left Cape Town, but did get the chance to speak to Rodgers.

"I didn't speak to Wayne before he left, because everything happened so fast, but Rodger came to me and asked for advice and of course I gave him a few pointers and things he should expect.

"Both players are well equipped to play regularly; Sundowns wouldn't want them if they didn't think that they are quality players.

"If a team like Sundowns ask 'sign here', you shouldn't doubt your ability. The most important thing is to go out there and enjoy yourself because that's what football is all about."

Tyren Arendse spent a few years at both Sundowns and Pirates before rejoining Santos in the 2008/09 season.

Eish i thought this team was gone for good to the NFD with their boring defensive play but they are still here. Zebras is true replica of Santos and the ugly football spirit lives on.#

Really now this is not on.

@Champ-Marapo:
Some are busy signing Santos' hert-beat, others are using the Santos' tachtics and its clearly not working. All this because Santos are the team that beat us real bad and now they wanna emulate em.

This is getting interesting.

They'll need more than that, Rodgers will need injuries to strike the 8 strikers ahead of him in the pecking order.

With all the teams rushing into the market to bolster their squads for the 2012/13 season, where do you think Mamelodi Sundowns should reinforce?

Strikers(35 % votes)
Midfielders(12.69 % votes)
Defenders(52.31 % votes)
-------------------------------------------------
Taken from Signdowns website, Management wanted strikers whereas the fans demanded defenders...

Thats a lie, You adviced rodgers to go and wash cars at sundowns in order for him to make monye before he can go back to santos. Rodgers wont last at sundowns, he is like L Ndlela. with 8 strikers he must be ready.
