It seems Orlando Pirates have let promising young striker Tokelo Rantie slip through their fingers.
Rantie spent last season on loan at The Buccaneers from Swewdish club IFK Hässleholm and made a huge impression.
It seemed certain that he would return to Pirates on a permanent deal, but with the clubs haggling over a transfer fee, Swedish top-flight outfit Malmo have now swooped in to make a move for the player.
Efforts to get hold of Rantie's agent, Mohamed Nadim, proved futile, but Stars of Africa Academy director Farouk Khan, who acts as the player’s mentor, confirms that the Bafana Bafana striker was back in Sweden.
“The right person to talk about Rantie's future is his agent, but we are still close to each other. I still talk to the boy and he confessed to me that he would have liked to play for Orlando Pirates,” Khan tells KickOff.com.
“He is now back in Sweden and is expected to start training with Malmo this week. I believe he wants to have a look at the team and meet the technical team before signing.”
Rantie’s contract with IFK Hässleholm is set to expire next season.
