Tokelo Rantie set to start training with Swedish side Malmo

Posted: 30 July 2012 Time: 11:40

It seems Orlando Pirates have let promising young striker Tokelo Rantie slip through their fingers.

Rantie spent last season on loan at The Buccaneers from Swewdish club IFK Hässleholm and made a huge impression.

It seemed certain that he would return to Pirates on a permanent deal, but with the clubs haggling over a transfer fee, Swedish top-flight outfit Malmo have now swooped in to make a move for the player.

Efforts to get hold of Rantie's agent, Mohamed Nadim, proved futile, but Stars of Africa Academy director Farouk Khan, who acts as the player’s mentor, confirms that the Bafana Bafana striker was back in Sweden.

“The right person to talk about Rantie's future is his agent, but we are still close to each other. I still talk to the boy and he confessed to me that he would have liked to play for Orlando Pirates,” Khan tells KickOff.com.

“He is now back in Sweden and is expected to start training with Malmo this week. I believe he wants to have a look at the team and meet the technical team before signing.”

Rantie’s contract with IFK Hässleholm is set to expire next season.

Now the only promising talent to solve the National team scoring problems is going to waste. Being able to hold onto this guy was not only beneficial to Pirates but the nation at large.

I still think we can pay any money on this boy.

Kick Off Poll: How many cups will Pirates win this season?

There is 15 other teams in Psl yet one team is eligible of winning all cups.

Ndulula is similar to Rantie, so this is not train smash.

Champ-Marapo: Rantie came to Pirates as a no name and Pirates made him a brand and good player, surely Khoza is looking for a reasonable deal here.

Why over priced a player you did not even value. This team is trying to exploit us here and lucky for us, our chairman is not a mafikizolo.

Eish my DTC, i understand all this. I mean the boy was unknown....and even if he was our player and we were to sell him to them with their asking price they were not going agree.
It is just that i love this boi and this boi loves the DTC with all his heart, you could tell everytime he celebrated a goal, you will see he was doing it for us, for the Bucs family.
So i was just asking my chairman to do it not to impress the Swedish dogs but to make the Pirates family, Rantie included happy.

Until at Bucs says is over,is not over.

Not even a single newspaper or media saw the return of Onyekachi yet he signed, this boy will play for Bucs again coz he is still young and wants to win cups so where else can he achieve that than at "the Zebra abbusers" AKA DTC

Rantie is a very good player but his employers are being very unreasonable in pricing him,I still feel that Benni needs a strike partner with pace and agility (like Rantie), coz Ndulula, Chinyama and Mbuyane all play the same role that Benni plays only Bester and Mabena come close to Rantie. To me its still an area of concern but I know THE DUKE will find a way as he always does

And yes Shabba failed trials at Nottingham forest...

Please be honest with yourself, Do you really believe that Rantie will ever play for Chiefs? Besides Chief's budget is finished, I saw Jessica in a queue outside African Bank applying for a loan..........

Is not like Pirates will suffer in the absence of Rantie, it just that to me Rantie is family. He wants to play for us, so let help him achieve that. Just being with him will make everyone happy. We have players like Mabena and Chinyama who will help Bernie Mac but we love Rantie and he loves us.
We can't allow him to be paraded around like a trophy whilst he wants to be on our ship.
