Pirates Kaizer Chiefs 5-4 on penalties, after the match had ended 1-1.
It took the individual brilliance of goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa during the shoot-out to deliver the trophy to Parktown.
Besides managing to defend the trophy, the day was special for Gcaba, Makola and Moholo, who made their first appearance in the Soweto Derby.
"I was nervous when the coach called me on the line to replace Andile Jali," Moholo admits. "But as I made one or two touches on the field I managed to settle down.
"I thank God for the opportunity, because not everyone gets a chance to play in a Derby like Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
"As you know, playing for Pirates is not easy, I have to keep working hard and stay focused in order to continue to achieve success with the club."
Gcaba's debut was almost spoiled when he missed his penalty, but he says his is still confident of receiving more medals with Pirates.
"It was a great feeling to win in my first Derby playing for Pirates," he says. "There is always pressure playing in these kind of games but I am happy that I managed to handle everything well throughout the game.
"We just have to go back to working hard at training and preparing for the next game against Celtic in the MTN tournament. I have no doubt that will continue winning more trophies at Pirates."
Makola also admitted that he "felt goosebumps" before his introduction in the second half.
"I am grateful for the great opportunity of playing in the first, biggest, Derby in my career," he says.
